To wine or not to wine! That is the question.

Since BC and LE particularly I have backed of the wine train drastically. I may only have a glass about once a month. More, if on holiday. I really use to enjoy sitting down about 3 times a week at night and wind down with my glass but I made a decision that this may not be so healthy and backed off since BC diagnosis. I am curious if BC or LE has changed your booze consumption? I know for sure that I can feel the effects in my LE arm when I do have one glass of wine. I kinda feel more tight in my limb a bit. I drink extra water to compensate for the dehydration. Any others with experiences would be nice? No judgements here, so no worry's. I really miss my glass, I think it forced me to slow down for the evening instead of working around the house until I dropped into bed.

hugz, what an interesting question! One I wrestle with. With my oncologist's blessing I have a small amount of red wine most evenings, mainly because heart disease kills more women than bc and red wine is supposed to help some with avoiding that. Maybe so, maybe not. I don't notice that it bothers my LE, but then neither does salt (unless I REALLY overdo it). But I sure agree with you that it seems to provide a dividing point between the day's work and the evening's before-bed relaxation, and that's no small thing.

There are too many tough calls like this one, y'know?Frown I'm looking forward to what others have to say. Thanks for bringing it up.

Studies finding a connection between 3+ servings of alcohol per week and BC got my attention, followed soon after by a study that suggests that red wine is the exception to that finding.  I am surely simplifying what the studies said, and if anyone has the particulars and finds I'm misinterpreting, please speak up. Unlike my growing library of LE studies, I did not keep copies of the alcohol ones (maybe I really didn't want to know???).

In any case, I have modified my alcohol habits--less overall, and with a definite preference for red wine. I do occasionally have a glass of white wine, and in summer, the occasional margarita or sangria, but wow do I think about it now, and that means that overall, I am consuming less. Not that I was ever a binge drinker, but I'm simply more mindful.  As for my LE, I have never noticed a connection between a drink of wine or other alcohol and any change in how my arm looks or feels.

actually liquor seems to make me flare slightly....if I am wearing a sleeve it is not too bad but since I try not to wear it to parties, that kind of kills drinking as an option for me. I do have sips or VERY watered down drinks, but not very often. I have kind of learned to be happy with just a sip or two of my husband's beer.
