Wine paranoia

Options

OK...  After hearing that alcohol is not a good idea, I've virtually given it up... 'til I went on a cruise last week... (my parents, son and I were celebrating the end of this nightmarish year-from-hell!)

Somehow I ended up consuming like a glass of red wine 5 days in a row with dinner (first day 2.5 glasses of champagne for the send off!) and now I am PARANOID that I have caused some sort of irreversible damage...

BTW... when does the paranoia about EVERYTHING abate?!  I don't like living this way...

Don't be silly! You were celebrating something special and a glass of wine a night won't kill you. You probably don't drink nightly in everyday life, so there is nothing wrong with enjoying theses pleasures sometimes. Sounds as if you had a lovely clebration

Shellies, congratulations on the end of your awful year! Of course you're wise to be cautious about your alcohol consumption, but there are times and places when you can, of course, decide to have an alcoholic drink!

Dr. Marisa Weiss, who founded Breastcancer.org, and has had BC herself, wrote a blog post that may reassure and inform you - Alcohol Consumption: You Can't Drink to Your Health. Don't miss her reply to one of the questions, where she talks about when she would have a drink!

I worry about this too, but saw this article this week.  Interesting that the recommendation on moderate consumption may now be ok.

Dont beat yourself up over 5+ glasses on vacation!  I think of it like this...There are people who smoke who never get lung cancer and people who dont smoke who do.  Research is important and healthy living is important, but you shouldnt live in fear of a small indulgance on occaision.  Glad you were able to celebrate.  Hope you enjoyed your trip.  Forget about the drinks you had then, and just do your best to live as healthy as you can, with an occaisional celebration & treat.

I am northern italian and oddly never drank wine (or other alcohol)- until i got my diagnosis. I started having a glass of red once every day after work with my roommate who drinks two glasses a night of red wine and is incredibly healthy.

So, alcohol did not cause my cancer.

On the day of diagnosis I started drinking a small glass every night and am now a NED, after all my treatments. So, it didnt hurt the success of chemo either, for me.

For me it is more about vascular health and anti-oxidants. Some of my relatives in Italy have been drinking red wine their entire lives and are over 100 years old.

So we just can't know!!! I guess everyone is indeed different.
