Im  almost 25 BRCA 1 and my mother died before 30.and have done a lot of research and have decided on a pre nipple and skin sparing masectomy with implants done at same time. I have met with local plastic surgeon and think im gonna go for it, just waiting for insurance to ok it. im extreamly nervous and scared im not making the right choice. I would love to find a specilist but i can not afford to fly back and forth and miss that much work. has anyone done this sugery and i have questions about the actual implants as well, recovery time ect. I know alot about it just not from someone that has gone through it HELP

Hi Jenamae, welcome to the forum.

Here is an entire section devoted to BRCA questions & threads. You might get more responses if you post your question there. There is also a lot you can read about women with similar diagnosis. You'll get lots of support.

Also have a look at the FORCE website--www.facingourrisk.org--lots and lots of women there have had the preventative BM--I just had my ovaries removed (I'm almost 45) and haven't yet decided on what to do with the rest of me. Good luck!!!

    Jenamae- Hi!

I just had a nipple/ skin sparing bilateral mastectomy on 12-13-12.

I wanted to go directly to implants but because I am small chested and framed we had to go with tissue expanders to make sure my skin had time to heal and stretch.

Please Private Message me with any questions you have!  I am 3 weeks out from the surgery and will be glad to help you in any way I can!
