Swollen lymph nodes under arm

Options

Hello,

About two weeks ago I noticed  a swollen lymph node under my right arm where my SNB was.  Later another area became swollen.  My Oncologist ordered a mammogram and an unltasound, which I had today.  The technician said there were several enlarged lymph nodes in the area.

Well, my doctor emailed me that they didn't see anything suspicious.  Good news, BUT...  she said that if my symptoms don't improve she wants me to see the breast surgeon.  I am confused.  I don't seem to be sick, so why are the nodes enlarged?  What could a breast surgeon possibly do?  She mentioned earlier that the breast surgeon may want to do a needle asperation biopsy.  Would they need to do that for enlarged nodes?  Can you have cancer in the lymph nodes, but not have a tumor?

Anyone with a similiar experience?

Thanks

    Hi there

It may be a simple inflammation due to any old thing, but it could be something that needs treatment. I would definitely push for a needle biopsy. They don't hurt too much, done under ultrasound, and will give you a clear answer.

    Cheers

Ardychan - I recently found a small hard lump near my SNB.  After careful examination my BS said it was scar tissue growing around a stitch.  I'm to watch it to see if there are any changes.  No biopsy was done, but if I hadn't felt comfortable with his diagnosis, I would have requested a needle biopsy.  I had one between surgeries for a lump.  It wasn't pleasant, but was over quickly.
