I3C and weight loss
Hi Ladies and Merry Christmas to you all! I have a question for any of you who use I3C. I used DIM for about 4 years and just recently switched over to I3C. Anyway, I have lost weight since I started taking it- about 11 lbs in 3 months time. My diet has not changed really that much. I feel really good. I have heard that I3C can be used for weight loss and am wondering if that is why I have lost the weight. However, I can't seem to find any studies to explain why this is. Has anyone else experienced this? I like the weight loss and definately need to lose the pounds but want to make sure there is nothing else going on since really very little has changed with my diet other than the I3C.

kd, I saw your question earlier, and since no one else has responded, I guess I can share my experience. I've used I3C, and I have lost some weight (about 10 lbs. over a year or so), but I attribute my weight loss to more exercise (walking+gym) and even healthier eating (very little meat or dairy; no wheat) than pre-bc. Since you were already using DIM, I wouldn't think switching to I3C would cause you to lose the significant amount of weight you have. How much I3C are you taking? Are you by any chance taking as much I3C as you were DIM? I use a much lower dose of I3C -- 50 mg. vs. 200 mg. of DIM, because the DIM was just too strong for me. Are you doing anything different in the way of exercise or diet? What about thyroid function? Have you had it checked recently? Deanna

Deanna, I have not had my thyroid checked. I'm not sure how much DIM I was taking but I take 300 mg of the I3C a day. According to what little I read 300-400 mg a day were associated with weight loss. My calorie intake maybe slightly less than what it was but not significantly I don't think. It sounds like I'm taking a lot more I3C than you are though. How did you determine how much to take? Have a Merry Christmas!!

I've been using DIM, but this sounds great...maybe I will switch...that weight loss SE sounds like as good a reason to try something new as any.
I did find one article... http://www.wellnessresources.com/health/articles/i3c_and_dim_for_breast_prostate_cancer_prevention/
I can't speak for it's accuracy, but the breast cancer fighting info was interesting. So, now I'm re-thinking the whole DIM vs. I3C thing, and am seriously considering switching. It seems like 300 mg/day is about what they want you to take, too.

Wow thanks for the article! That was interesting and has made me more convinced my weight loss could very well be related to the I3C. I did not experience this effect with the dim so there must be something about the I3C that my body metabolizes differently. It would be interesting to see if anyone else has experienced this SE.
