Day Sleeves - Fit
Comments
-
So I have a new fitter with a different company. I was measured and fitted. Sleeves (Mediven Mondi Day Sleeve and Solaris Tribute Night Sleeve) came in and seemed to fit upon trying them on. But after wearing them for about three days (washing the day sleeve daily). Something just didn't seem right. The day sleeve slipped and bunched at the elbow. It also does not seem to come high enough on my arm. The night sleeve seems loose in the hand and upper arm. So the fitter remeasured and ordered me a new day sleeve, adjusting the length by one cm. As well as a different type band. I hope this works. One cm just does not seem to be much. The night sleeve is odd as it seems as there is no affect or pattern on my hand but there is a pattern on my thumb. There is a pattern on my lower arm and it is gradual and fades as it goes up my arm. Now I wash the night sleeve weekly but after about the third day the pattern is less noticeable on the lower arm and almost non existent on the upper arm. The fitter tells me there should be no pattern on my hand or thumb. She told me not to have the sleeve snug against the web of my thumb and had me put on my sleeve to show me how it should be worn. I did this last night and it didn't make any difference. It's been a long time since I had a good fitting set of sleeves so I am doubting myself and the fit of the sleeves. I know Solaris will make the night sleeve right but I just do not want to go through another year of this. Can others comment and share the fitting of their sleeves please. TIA.

My old (and brand new) tribute show patterns on the back of my hand and up my arm, but it does fade as it gets above my elbow. My LE therapist says that's good because it should be looser at the top so fluid can move freely. But most of my swelling is in my hand/ forearm. My upper arm is usually good. With my old tributes, when I thought I was losing the compression/patterns, I would modify the outer jacket and make it tighter to keep the compression until insurance would pay for a new one.
As far as the day sleeve goes... I agree one cm. doesn't seem to be a lot. I had to push to get my sleeves and gloves the length I want. I don't seem to fit into their fit guidelines. They were always too short in the lower arm. I finally added 6 cm to her measurements and said I would deal with it if it was too long. And it ended up fitting the way I like. If the only problem is the slipping, but otherwise it's fine, there's a product called "it stays"(?) that's a roll on adhesive. My therapist tried it briefly on me when I was bandaging.
Good luck with your fit issues. That's why I am reluctant to change sleeve brands. The fit process is a pain. -
GottaloveNED, I just left a message for the fitter asking her to hold off on having the day sleeve remade. I kept thinking about the one cm. It is not enough. I made the mistake of wearing the first make of the new sleeve today and fluid backed up into my forearm and into my hand and fingers. I took the sleeve off and did some work on my arm to move the fluid and then decided to just wear my old sleeves until I can get an appointment with the fitter.
I have an odd situation with my arm. See I don't need a sleeve or gauntlet. With a well fitting sleeve I have no problem with my hand or fingers. My PT also told me my forearm is longer then most people so she has to add a measurement when she does her measuring.
I have used "It Stays" but had a skin reaction to it and ended up with cellulitis. So I decided it was something I would not use again as I didn't want to risk it. -
My forearm is longer than average too, according to the way my sleeves fit. Twice, she measured and ordered me sleeves based on their measurement guidelines. Each time my sleeves were short and landed 3 cm. above my wrist no matter how I tugged it down. Like I said, I added 6 cm. to the bottom of it, and it fits perfectly. Good luck with the remake!
