Very interesting. I also have asthma and was dx'd IDC llb. In addition to asthma, I have extreme allergies to almost everything (environment, foods, meds) and take medication to control some of it (complete control not attainable). However, it seems a juxtaposition that your immune system has been shown to have a causal relationship as to whether cancer develops or not, and it seems that if you have a hyper-vigilant immune system it would protect you more than ever against cancer. Obviously that is not my case. I have posed this question to my dr's and they could not answer, saying only there was research occurring. If taking meds to control allergies suppresses the immune system (ie, steroids) is it not also suppressing the bodies natural response to cancer cells? On the other hand, if inflammation drives cancer cell growth, then the steroids would help decrease inflammation. Either way, sounds like we're pretty screwed. Interesting. I'll have to follow this. I know the next big thing is monoclonal antibodies in the tx. of allergies, but I cannot do those either. Allergic. Yep, no Herceptin for me.
