A little ray of light in my battle to find GOOD LE care
Some of you may know what a battle it is for me to find good (id settle for mediocre care right now I am so depserate) LE therapy.
I have medicare and they don't pay for sleeves so I paid out of pocket for my first sleeves that the LE therapist gave me at the clinic.I met my Medicaid deductible so I called the Medicaid program to find out if it pays for LE garments. They told me my doctor/health professional has to call them then call me. What a bunch of BS. So I called the mastectomy boutique in town that I used when I had my BMX cuz they sure know their way around insurance. I have dealth with the ladies at the mastectomy boutique before and they are very nice.
I can get sleeves and I am getting gloves because sometimes my hand and fingers swell so much that I have troubles using them.
Medicaid pays a portion. If you have a single arm, you can get 3 sleeves a year. She was confusing my about what to do with bialteral arm LE. But hey, any help is help you know? They are even certified fitters! I have an appt tomorrow to get measured. They said if my LE is flaring up on the arms, I may need a different size.
After Christmas I go to see a new breast surgeon to see what she can do to help me and see if there is someone she knows that is good to see for LE.
I am also going to ask for information on LE. I am tired of searching the info on the internet. I want pamplets, booklets, papers of info to bring home, just like I had with cancer. I know it is out there.
Anyway, thank you for every one who puts in the time here to post, reply, help, and support. I really appreciate it.

Cinnamon, good for you!! It is never easy to deal with the insurance and someone to help can be a godsend. I hope you find a sleeve to suit you. You may just want to get 1 for now and see how it works if they're over the counter to make sure they fit right and help before you use up your garment allowance. If you have to custom order, I would do one first in case you have to have them remade. It is almost the end of 2012 though, so if you need to order them before the end of the calendar year, keep that in mind.
