What are the chances?

7 months ago I had a masectomy on my non cancerous side. He removed everything and replaced with a implants and fat grafting. He saw nothing when he removed the breast.

On that side I had lumps-bumps- little pea things etc,. My doctor/surgeoun said 99.9% I can't or don't have a bc in that breast. He said I could wait until the end of January to come in and see him in TN. ( I am in Hawaii)My oncologist concuerred.

I guess my question is what are the chances of developing a big or small bc in a 7 month period after a masectomy? I am also on anti hormonal and had my ovaries removed three years ago.

I don't know what the chances are but it seems to me like its unlikely.  I'm rooting for scar tissue from the implant.  Try not worry until you can get in.  I know that is a dumb thing to say.  Everyone worries about this stuff.  I'm thinking good thoughts of scar tissue for you.

Pure, when you had your mastecomy, for the nc side, that should have gone to the lab for patholigy.  That would have showed that their was no cancer there at the time.  So it problely scar tissue or something to due with the implant/surery.  Good Luck

Yes-it went to the lab and nothing was there..So I guess the question is whats the chances of cancer growing in 7 months with no breast tissue there.

Hi Pure, I don't know the chances are either. Have you been tested for BRACA 1 & 2.  I've also heard from my doctor as well as  many women on here who thought they had it in the other breast too once they were diagnosed, and docs usually say that IDC "doesn't jump breasts."  I understand you concern though. I've also heard a lot of women talk about having scar tissue after breast surgery that they thought were malignant lumps. My mom was one of them. Her scar tissue feels like a hard mass, much like the malignant ones, but the malignant one I had was slightly red and hot to the touch. No way of knowing without a biopsy, but hope it is just benign.  I'm in Hawaii too if you ever want to drop a line.

Hi Pure,  

I'd have to agree with your dr. You had everything removed and it went to pathology. For something to grow that quickly in 7 months doesn't seem likely. I had a diep a year ago. The scar tissue is constantly changing.  I'm suppose to keep working on it to keep it from getting hard and bead like. I actually have my physical therapist or DH do the honors. If I keep feeling around I freak myself out :-(
