Chemo tastebuds - a breakthrough for me?

Hi all.

Second time on Chemo that wrecks my tastebuds, and I love to eat. I have had a little breakthrough with working out what will taste good and what will turn to #£>p in my mouth...fats and oils!

I wonder if anyone else finds this. All fresh fruit and veggies taste fine, but nearly everything else doesn't. I have started making clear soups, eating food "stir fried" in water, baked non-oily fish in the oven, eaten toast with jam and no butter, and everything tastes better.

Of course I still eat some of my favourites, chocolate etc. I just try to trick my brain that it tastes good.

Would be interested in feed back.

Cheers

Angela

Bland is the name of the game. Anything greasy turns me off. The day of chemo and for the next several, I eat "sick people's" food - cream of wheat, scrambled eggs, soft boiled eggs, clear soups. That all settles best. I have little desire for meat...especially red meat. If I make a new recipe, it only appeals to me one time and then I am searching for something new. Eating is challenging between the queasiness and loss of taste buds.

I, too, like the fresh fruits and veggies best. Some say they crave pickles. I had a yen for cucumbers last week...anything kind of moist and fresh... pears are very good. They have lots of fiber, too!

Cheers to you Angela! Hang in there.
