How Long Does it Take for Oncotype Results
This waiting game is so stressful. First, I have to wait for an after surgery visit to my BS. Then I finally get referred to my MO. Well, of course he needs the oncotype test performed. So that test was ordered on 11/9/12. I have had my follow up appointment with the MO rescheduled twice because to results are not back on the oncotype. Now they say the earliest is 12/5/12. Dang, I am a former medical technologist and worked 16 years at Emory University Hospital. I never had the option of having the holidays off. Someone had to work; patients need lab work 24/7. In my opinion if a company owns the sole rights to a diagnostic test that patients all over the world depend upon, Thanksgiving should not be an excuse for such a long delay in results. Cancer patients have their lives on hold, waiting and waiting. Guess I will go take another prozac!!!!

I was told that it takes two to three weeks to get the Oncotype results back. In my case, I saw my MO before surgery. She was able to advise the surgeon where she wanted the pathology done, besides the hospital, and had the Oncotype test ordered/ send out the day of surgery. My results were ready for my appt with her about two weeks after surgery.

I think waiting for the Oncotype results was the hardest for me too! I had my surgery on Nov 30th (2010) and I remember it was a few days before Christmas when I came home and saw a message waiting for me from my MO.
He said he normally would have waited to have an appt and tell me in person.. but just had to leave a message to let me know my score was in the low range and that he wasn't recommended chemo. He wanted me to be able to enjoy the holidays.
I had been pretty "stoic" through the whole process..but I broke down in tears when I heard that. Makes me teary eyed even now - 2 years later.
I'll cross my fingers that yours comes in low and comes in soon.

I too had surgery, etc..., and then met w/ my MO. He wanted the Onco test done, so it was a waiting game. It took like 2-3 weeks. Just added to the stress. I really wish these places would think of the person on the other end. Best of luck.

Susan : That was so very thoughtful of your MO to think of you and call with the good results. Thank you for the encouraging thought. However, with grade 3, I am preparing myself for a high score. Hope you continue to do well!

Well... for more positive thoughts... I was a grade 3 at biopsy..but surgery pathology said grade 2. So I really could be grade 3 but I chose to publish the lower of the two.
Also my Ki67% was high! Oncologist was literally basing the final chemo decision on the Oncotype because I had several things not in my favor ("young" 43, higher grade, tumor over 1 cm (1.4) ) ... so you never know.
P.S. My sister's had already knitted me a hat to wear during chemo for my birthday! (It's the day after Christmas). She still gave me the hat. It's quite lovely and stylish and looks okay with hair too.

Hi there, I was told it was 10-14 days for results. Onctype - genomic health, has a great customer service center. You can call them and they'll tell you where exactly along the pathway you are for your results and the estimated date. Call them- they're great.
Customer Service
Tel: +1 (866) ONCOTYPE (866-662-6897)
Fax: +1 (650) 556-1073
Email: Customer ServiceI was young at diagnosis too, 43. My tumor grade 3 and my results came back as 11 - I had her2 +1 too, so you never know. I had 3 Oncology consults, 2 said theyd offer Chemo as my tumor was larger and the grade 3, but they'd feel fine if I didnt' elect to have it. One said, just do it. I am young and it makes sense.
I elected not to have it as 2 were Oncologists stated they were comfy with my choice.
Good luck to you.

Thank you so much, ladies, for the encouragement. It is comforting to hear from those with grade 3 and a low score. Perhaps I will get what I want most for Christmas. I will go forward and hope for the best. Thanks again (((HUGS))))
