Health Insurance where to buy individual plans?
Hi all I found this web site http://www.individualhealthquotes.com/ I am coming up with plans between 187$ and 300$ a month with my having breast cancer. However, I think when I go to talk with these people it could be higher. They want to pull the bait and switch routine. But I wanted to ask you folks if you have an individual plan you are paying for and not from work.
Not sure if this was the right place to put this but I could not find another place that was specifically insurance dedicated.
Thank you
Pil

Pil, I worked for an individual health insurance company for many years. Until 2014 when the "no preexisting conditions" part of Obamacare kicks in I don't believe anyone but State High Risk Pool or the government plans for people with preexisting conditions would even cover anyone with cancer on a comprehensive major medical plan. If anyone would they would most likely exclude coverage for the breasts & cancer. Unless you are very young it would most likely cost much, much more than that too. The only thing I can even think would cost that little would be some kind of hospital indemnity or limited coverage policy. I'm 51 and had to drop my State risk pool coverage 2 years ago when it hit almost $8000 a year, and that was with a $5000 deductible & no limit on 20% copay and out-of-pocket & a $250 deductible on prescriptions.

I'm with a federal high risk pool. My payments are 350 a month with a 4500 dollar deductable. Ive had to fight them over everything as they have a "independant physician" who oversees all medical treatments. This guy is a joke, and not even an onc. hes an internist.

I buy my own policy through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. I only have a surgery/hospitalization policy, but it has covered me through chemo, BMX, radiation & reconstruction. My rates went up & I now pay about $186 a month including dental. I have a $500 in-network deductible & a $2500 in-network out of pocket. They don't cover actual doctor appointments, even with my oncologist so I end up paying about $200 every time I see him, which is about every 4 months. They denied my Oncotype Dx test because it was out of network, but the company filed the appeal & then settled with me for a fraction of what the charges were. BCBS also would not cover my RX for Singulair or more than 2 PT sessions for lymphedema. Also no coverage for lymphedema sleeves, bras or prosthetics. Other than those few things that I can think of, BCBS has been really great & they covered a lot more than I thought they would.
I was healthy & had an existing insurance policy through my husband's employer when I opted to go off of his & get my own for cost reasons.

try ehealthinsurance.com - I think their rates are though the companies. Or call your local blue cross/blue shield, and see what they have to say - IF your state is one of the ones that has a guaranteed issue plan, bc/bs would be one of the carriers. If not, they can give you a direction to begin your search. Good luck!!
I see you're in Arkansas...here's a bc/bs link...http://www.arkansasbluecross.com/Default.aspx
And remember, whatever you choose can be changed after 1/1/14, when guaranteed issue goes into effect nationwide - you may have more options, although the premiums may be higher, too.
