DIEP 2013
Comments

Bailey, I'm so happy for you! Symmetrical, beautiful noobs! And when the bruising and swelling recede, you'll look like Barbie.
Maybe this is why those of us who had mastectomies and then needed to wait a bit before recon are frequently so happy with even our frankenboobish results. My own DIEP gave me back a sense of beauty and wholeness. Here's to dancing with Wilbur in a beautiful, low-necked gown, while the crock-pot bubbles away in the kitchen.
Note: when we got married in 1977 we received five crock-pots as wedding gifts.
RHG...LOL...
I once emailed a physician I work with that I was going in for reconstruction surgery, but I wrote, "I'm having an addaracktome." He totally didn't get it. He wrote back, "I'm not familiar with that surgery." LOL...
-
I'm sitting here in the morning darkness, waiting for the sun to come up. Bailey, when I read your post....I swear it was like the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen!!!!! I can't imagine how thrilled you must be, and I am sooooo very happy for you!!!!! Hey...just had a thought.......you can substitute the words Waltzing Matilda......with DANCING WITH WILBUR and it works!!!! Now there is a Wilbur song!!!!!! Behave yourself and keep healing....spectacular way to end the year.
Hey...don't be turning away that crockpot quite yet....could be the best chili you ever tasted in there!
curly....hope you're moving down the recovery road too. Also hope you get home before the ice storm hits TO!!!! Sounds like some nasty weather heading your way. Not my fault, honest!
sbe....any "leakage" last night?? I totally agree with your theory too. Time and distance are incredible gifts. Stop calling them frankenboobs, girl....I bet they are works of art....a little "picasso-ish"perhaps, but, they say art is supposedly in the eye of the beholder, right!
Have great days, ladies!
-
Awwwe, thank you friends. You are all simply the best. I am feeling nostalgic too. I checked the list the other day and saw that Sharon and were the last surgeries for the year and was a bit sad. The list will go on.....somebody will start a 2014 list I am sure. And I will be on it as I have more stages to go yet. And we have our moving on board. We aren't losing.....just gaining
I hurt like hell and anybody who says I am lucky to be able to get these surgeries can kiss my scars. This morning the lift incisions are throbbing like crazy. Time for more ibuprofen. I am going to try to stay off the Nucynta during the day today since it makes me so loopy.
Thing 1 and Thing 2 have a snow day today and get to take care of me ! What good timing, Mother Nature! And am grateful I didn't have to drive in it this morning. They were saying it is glare ice on the roads. Be careful Katski and Cherrie (but I think Cherrie is out of town).
Laters

Goldie... I have some numbness at the donor sites (I had GAP and DIEP) but not a ton of numbness. Maybe right along the incision line its numb?? But otherwise I do have sensation.
And yes, the NOLA docs do do implants... They are known for their flaps, but definitely have patients with implants or a combination of flap and implants.
-
Bailey, I'm so thrilled that you are thrilled with your beautiful boobs! Hip-hip-hooray! Or boob-boob-hooray! I hope you will take the pain drug if you hurt a lot. As you know, pain interferes with healing. Your "things" can take care of you and might enjoy your loopiness. 😉I always enjoy a good Wilbur story!
-
Enjoyed reading everyone's posts..don't have a ton of energy to type right now. I have frozen shoulder in my right (dominate arm) from the way my arm was placed during surgery. Still loving my new girls, haven't seen ab incision yet as I am wearing a lovely binder. Got up for a slooooow walk to nurses station today, very tired afterwards. Appetite is not normal yet 5 days post op. Did #2 yesterday..Rofl. THE BEST part I will be going home tomorrow!!!!
-
Curlylocks, welcome to flapper land! Yay for not being plugged up! And yay for going home soon! Merry Christmas! Nihahi, this photo is for you. We haven't had snow in two years. It will be washed away by rain in a few hours. 😡Is it sideways? It is for me.
-
hahahaha.....thanks for the photo jeannie....Looks very pretty, but really slick and slippery!!!! Right side up all the way...make sure you stay the same if you have to go out!
My sister has to go out to an appt today....she is NOT happy....she has to get down Queen Anne hill then get up First Hill.....the incline is so steep on parts of that, I get out of breath walking around!!!!
curly....you sound wonderful, but gosh, travel safely tomorrow. For me, the exhaustion and appetite took a loooong time to resolve, but they do! One day at a time, so happy to hear about your "take" on your new boobs!!!!
-
Oooh, Nihahi, that's not good. Hopefully it will all be plowed or be gone when she has to go out. No ice worries, at least. That is why snow in Seattle is such a big deal. Lots of hills and not enough plows.
-
Bailey, you sound great! Sorry it's hurting. I think my worst times are first thing in the morning the day after surgery. I usually have neglected to take any pain meds during the night and I wake up feeling miserable. You'd think I'd learn.
When my twins were fifteen years old, I crashed my bike and broke my collarbone. The day after, when I was almost immobile from pain, road rash, and bruising, I really needed to take a shower. The one who is now a financial analyst wanted to help but couldn't even look at an abrasion without throwing up, so he made lunch. The one who is now a radiologist helped me undress, got me in the shower, and got me out and dressed again, with inexperienced but tender care.
Nihahi, I'm still a little leaky. It's like there's a mini-seroma under the incision, and when I move around or lie down, it leaks out a tiny hole on the incision line. I'm dressing it every day with bactroban ointment and hoping it just goes away. Last dive (hopefully!) this morning! Today, it's "Kate and Leopold." A sweet, non-scary love story!
-
ooohhhh sbe.....if only they could let you put some honey on that spot....then slide you in the tube.....you could turn it into a HIVE!!!!! bzzzzzz.
-
You ladies sound fantastic - makes me smile so wide! I'm so happy for all your positive outcomes!
Got my ooph stitches out today - the pathology on the cyst was negative
Told hubby that, statistically, I was due for some good news and I got it! Went and did my admissions paperwork for Monday while I was there, so all set for an early start. I guess this actually makes me the last surgery for 2013, but it's a fix job so not date-list-worthy. I'm determined to start thinking about nipples soon!
-
Lahela.....I think "statistically" you are just as valid on the list as any other stage x,y or z!!!! May I ask the mods to add your date??? You have the same right to pocket parties as anyone else, and I, personally, would love to pop over for another round of Swiss Chocolate shooters!!!
Wonderful news on the cyst report too!!!!!
-
Lahela, I am so happy to hear your "negative" news! I hope Monday's fix works beautifully!
-
On my last working day of 2013, I get to read all the good news in the
flapper land from Curly, Sharon, Movie, Bailey, and lahela. I second Jeannie:
boob-boob-hooray!sbe, this little fighter spoke to my heart. We flappers throw everything
we've got, including our belly fat, at the evil BC. After difficult fights many
of us came out “patched up” but still standing. It's so good to be alive! After seeing a picture of her
from FB, I just had to have it. In case anyone wants to know, she is a “Precious Moments by Enesco”
figurine. Her caption is “Life is worth Fighting for”Heal, everyone, heal.
-
Lahela I almost said I was last unless there were any other fixits or lurkers out there lol! You can have the honors, sista, you have earned it!!!
-
Yay for Swiss Chocolate shooters!!!
-
Nihahi, go ahead and add me and I'll get Wilbur working on the shooters straight away!
Love you gals so much!
-
Lahela - so glad you got negative results today. Hope Monday is a walk in the park. Yay for Swiss chocolate in your pockets.
Sharon - congrats on being done!!! Bailey - you sound great!
I'm getting cabin fever. Would so like to be out for a short walk, but it has been switching between rain and freezing rain, so not good weather for a first walk. Hopefully later today or tomorrow.
Interesting observation - I have not really had a sweet tooth since surgery (and I had a big one). A friend is dropping by this afternoon and i assembled a little plate of my Mom's holiday baking. We will see if that resurrects my affinity for sweets. Might be better not to tempt It, but Mom is an awesome baker!
Ridley
-
marty....hope you're resting and healing.....thinking of you.
Ridley....do NOT chance slipping and sliding on the ice. There will be many days ahead to do that. Mom's baking.....sigh....wonderful memories of those times. Enjoy one or two for me, OK?
lahela....I have messaged the mods....you should see your "date" soon.
Tammy...I'm first in line for the dark chocolate shooters.....hubby brought home a gift basket from one of his people....giant bottle of Kahlua and one of Bailey's.....it's gonna be one heck of a pocket party!
-
Aha! Nihahi, do you think Prince George loves dark chocolate too ?
-
Please don't go out walking on the ice. I went for my regular walk last night (my husband has been going with me since my exchange, but I wanted out by myself last night) and I fell. No ice. Just a pot hole that had been filled too high, and my walking shoe hit it wrong. I went flying. I had enough time to think about not face planting, and I landed on my hands and hip. Today all kinds of places hurt, especially my hip, left wrist and believe it or not, the muscle up the front of my neck. I must have tried really hard not to face plant and either whipped my head back, or held it back really hard. So, no walking on the ice!!! Falling is no fun!!!!
Bailey, you sound so excited!!!! They should have put a sticker on you, "do not peek till xmas." But, I don't think you could have done it!!!! I am really happy for you.
Jeannie, love your snow pic!!!
Lahela, good news for you!!! Yah!
-
Managed to get in just a 10 minute walk - then it started to rain again. No ice - just slushy. And had my Dad with me. The fresh air was glorious. I won't chance it on ice. I have this vision of me splitting in two at the abdominal incision if I fall. Goldie -- so sorry you fell - hope you feel better soon.
Had one homemade date square -- delish!
-
Goldie....NOOOOO that is NOT what you need....hope your aches and bruises heal quickly.
Tammy...I have not a clue what the Prince George reference is to......but...I am still partially deceased, so confusion is still the norm.
-
Birthday!
-
Happy bday, Tammy! That is what you are trying to tell us right? LOL. Even it's it not your bday, happy bday anyway!
-
Ridley - Rule # 1. Do whatever Nihahi and Goldie tell you. And that means staying inside - especially this weekend because it's supposed to me an icey mess out here. And if you fall you'll end up like like those ladies that get sawed in half by a Magician, and Dr Hofer and his ducklings will have to sew you back together.
-
happy birthday, Tammy!?!
-
Goldie, ouch!
-
Wow......I try to get out and put my Christmas together, and am already impossibly behind......
Bailey....SO jealous that Wilbur likes you better than he likes me.......lucky girl! Seriously, take what you need to stay pain-free. MOST importantly, so very happy that YOU are happy with the outcome of your surgery......remember, they are only going to look better......
Sbe...STOP referring to your girls as frankenboobies! I know what I am talking about, and YOU know it, too! Your PS did a fantastic job!
Nihahi, if you are only partially deceased, I guess that's progress? I am afraid if this happened to me, I would use it as an excuse to "forget" the gifting this time of year....."Gee, I'm so sorry there is no present from me, I'm dead, you see......" We decided that due to my surgery in December, we were just going to gift the GKs.......stress level has dropped precipitously.......may make this the new family tradition!
Ridley, better listen to Nihahi and Goldie......don't want to risk your new girls getting hurt due to a fall on ice.........
Tammy.....Happy Birthday(?) and if not.....happy day to you!
I forgot to mention (in my exuberance yesterday) that PS wants me in Marena Iron level compression for another 4 weeks.......I can manage during the days, but the nights are really hard......will have to have another prescription for Ativan......I get SO claustrophobic I picture myself running in circles, screaming bat sh*t crazy stuff! and ripping it to shreds......I think the Ativan is healthier......
