Kineso tape left 2 big red welts, when pulled off
A spray was put on to have my K-tape hold better on my truncal LE.
Last night I pulled it offf gently as I had it on for a week and it was coming loose at the ends. It took a half hour to get it off slowly. I even used coconut oil to try an loosen the k tape.
This morn I have 2, 6 inch red welts across my back. My DD put polysporin on it, but I need to get dressed in my shaper for my truncal and I can't put a huge bandage on it to keep the polysporin secure, as I am by myself now.
Do I just put the shaper on and watch for any worsening signs throughout the day? Emerg. Is overflowed today 5-7 hour wait and I have so many other specialist appoint today that I can't break. Not a good day for this!
Any ideas?

hugz--How awful. My therapist used to kineseo tape my trunk and back. She put a barrier wipe she had to help prevent rash, etc. She told me never to pull it off--just wear it until it came off on its own. When the ends became loose I just kept cutting them off.
Hope you heal okay with no ill after effects! I was allergic to other tapes but not the kineseo. But others here have had some problems I think with allergic reactions.

I am wildly allergic to kinesiotape, as I am to most tape, and fortunately my LE PT tried a little sample first to determine this. I don't get much relief from topicals although have used Fluocinide to deal with the rash but the itch is well controlled with Atarax. I usually have to do a tapering dose of Prednisone if I have a reaction. If you can get in to see someone maybe you can try this combination. Good luck!

Thanks for advice, I am watching it and have my keflex in hand as I know ER is so busy because one hospital nearby had to shut their ER doors due to a flood inhouse.
Talked to LE girl and she will have a look at it tomarrow if it is worse. The red is subsiding due to the compression tee I believe. However there is skin taken off and that is still red and swollen. She said to try a cool shower on it or an ice pak carefully administered for less than 10 min. and not too cold next to the skin. Will put a towel around the ice pak and do it after my next appointment. Will try to squeeze in a Lebed and doing tons of water and deep breathing. Like we need this stupid stuff to interrupt our lives!
I am not allergic to KTape, I just have delicate dry skin(wearing a sleeve in my delicate elbow area took me forever to get used to.) and have to watch the sticky stuff on bandaids too. OHHHHHHH BALDERASH!
I should have known better. YIKES!

Ok, I just had a look at my K tape injury. It is improving, Welts are going down, I hope continually! DD put more anitbiotic cream on it. Grrrrrrrr I hate LE.
OPPS wrong thread.

Hugz, I hope you are healing without any issues. I trim the tape until it comes off, but the length of time it sticks is usually based on how recently I moisturize before taping. I got impatient once when I had a small area of tape left and pulled it off carefully. It left a bit of a welt but didn't look raw. I did exactly as you are doing with the neosporin. Didn't cover with a bandage and went without my tank for a day, wore a loose soft cotton shirt. It cleared up in a couple of days.
-
Tina, Thanks for your concern, I babied it carefully and today there are no marks or swelling there. Thankfully I had a couple days off to cope with this mishap. I cut out a huge hole on the back portion of an old tee shirt where the anitbiotic cream was to be applied, so it never rubbed off until I had to change into a compression tee and go out. However since I have been sitting most of the day today except for my 50 min walk I have noticed that I am getting a stingy boob next to the armpit. Don't tell me that all that fluid I got from the welt has made its way into my breast somehow. I really don't want breast LE due to KTAPE wound! ugggggh!

I had a problem my first time, as they used rubbing alcohol so KT would stick better. With my sensitive skin, I do not have a problem with it sticking. Anymore we do not use the alcohol prep. Some here have found they need to apply Milk of Magnesia to their skin first, so the adhesive is less harsh on their skin. Have you heard of this?
-
I was told to have a warm bath and let it soak in the hot water then pull it off. This makes it come off really easily, no problem at all. Hope this helps for next time.
-
I have not tried the milk of magnesia trick. I wish I knew if anyone did also?
Hillside. I did try and soak it in the bath for about 10 min but to no success. I wish that would have worked. Maybe that spray she used first before the K tape was the culprit and that is why is was stuck too hard on.
I seem to be having a stingy sensation in my breast now. I never had it before the ktape disaster. :(When I walk it goes away for a while but slowly starts up again. As for the tape wound it has cleared up completely. Just left with the stupid breast problem now. Hope its not LE in there.
-
Hugz, here are some hugs for you!!! I hope no breast LE from this mishap.
-
I was told to use baby oil on the tape to loosen it. I use alchohol on my arm to help the tape stick. I loosly wrap medical tape around the ends, just so they don't start peeling/rolling down in a few hours. I use the tape right up into my fingers, so it usually rolls pretty quickly after applying it.

Your post is making me nervous.
Five years ago I had to delay radiation on my right breast because I reacted so horribly to the tape used after my lumpectomy. "That" was much more painful than any radiation burn I got later. Seriously, I blistered and oozed from the tape, not the radiation, and it took forever to heal, whereas I normally heal quickly.
I feel for you. I hope everything goes well.

strike - make sure that when you see the doc or have any surgery that you note sensitivity to tape on your records. I am allergic to all kinds of tape and get a local reaction that has been compounded in the past by allergy to antibiotics simultaneously. After BMX they pulled my drains at 7 days and put me on steroids to deal with it - they usually don't do that because of the healing inhibition, but I was in real trouble. There is a thread on the boards that is specifically about tape and it has some good sources and brands to try.

THX for posting this . You know it sounds so obvious, but really I dont have it on any of my recods ! I had a terrible reaction to my biopsy tape.Any time a new dr asks me about allergies I just think of RX drugs. This is good for all to remember !

Went to my PT today and ever since my Prophy Mast I've had on that side, what I think is an area of fluid that just doesn't go away. Ocassionally I have some pain in this area. I've reasoned that it can't be fat because its reasonably flat and firm on my Cancer side but spongy and flabby on the prophy side. Anyway PT put some Kineso tape on and I remember having a reaction to the orange tape. some time back. She said a number of her patients have reacted to that colour. So, Im now trying a light brown colour. So far so good. No itching, and I , like so many others have quite a reaction to many tapes. Ive had to have a little course of steriods to get on top of things like urticaria. Will post how I get on with this tape and seeif theres any itching.

My back is fine. I don't think I was allergic. I just couldn't get the dang stuff to loosen even soaking in tub and allowing oil to soak it. Just easing it off caused the welts in the exact shape as the tape. I suspect my breast to be a bit swollen on top due to the welting but I am watching it like a hawk. Dang my girl should have warned me about the stickiness. Shehas been doing LE for years. I guess that is why we have to investigate everything no matter what.
-
I'm glad your back is fine hugz ... and certainly hope the swelling disappears on breast. yea my LE T told me to do the oil thing if it irritates.
So, 24 hours in and I only had 2 short lived niggles of itches last night bedtime, but other than that all good. Heres hoping. She warned me that the first day there can be a "little bit of itching" and to just try and ignore it unless it gets too much.
