Tiny Lump, Discharge

Hi there!

I'm 29 and have been having nipple discharge for over 3 years now :/ Initially, (several years ago) I was sent for a mammogram, and never heard back from my doctor. I ended up switching doctors (for unrelated reasons), and when the new (more thorough) doctor received my medical records, he called and scheduled me for a galactogram. Apparently, it had been indicated by the radiologist's office when I'd had the mammogram.

I showed up, and the individual performing the test kept saying that she couldn't insert the catheter because the ducts were too small - she then proceeded to tell me "not to worry about it, it'll probably just go away". Well, it has not gone away. I end up with small stains in all of my bras, and if I press on my breast in the right spot, it actually sprays out. Gross tmi, I just thought that should be considered :p

My paternal and maternal grandmother are both breast cancer survivors, one has had a radical mastectomy, and one had a one-sided mastectomy. Both have been cancer free for over 15 years. My paternal aunt died of breast cancer that had metastasized to her brain. I've been told that makes me pretty high risk. That having been said - I definitely know to perform manual self breast exams (thank you, Grandmas!!!!).

I discovered a tiny lump under my areola a few weeks ago (same side as discharge). I have a doctor's appointment in two weeks, at which point I'll discuss this with my doctor. The lump feels like the pointy tip of a sunflower kernel sticking up towards the surface of my skin, if that makes sense? Initially, I thought I was being oversensitive and felt something that was really in my imagination, haha. Well, I checked again a few weeks later (after my period), and the tiny lump is still there - there is no problem going right back to that spot and differentiating it from the surrounding tissue. Today, I realized I can actually feel it by lightly skimming my hand over the areola in that spot. I'm guessing it is probably a papilloma, but won't be "relieved" until I get more tests done by my doctor. Should I request an ultrasound? I really don't want to try the "galactogram" again - I hate needles. Plus, I've heard galactograms aren't always the most reliable and that ultrasounds are more sensitive, especially in the instance of a detected lump.

Has anybody else had this experience? I won't "not worry" about it until I've had another test. I'm curious to know other individuals' experiences, though!

I'm writing on this board because I don't want to worry my grandmothers by asking them. Thank you for your responses!
