Hi I am a 27 year old who was dx with stage 2 breast cancer, I went through chemo and radiation! It has been two years since i was dx and I am doing great!! My doctor keeps telling me i have to wait five years to have a baby! I just cant come to terms with this!! I have read a lot of other reasearch and it says two years!! I understand the risk that if it comes back you cant do anything when you are prego! But i am doing great, I am a optimist and i just want to move on with my life!! Anyone else in this situation???

Are you on tamoxifen for your ER+? Because that is often the issue with waiting for five years... You can't be pregnant while taking tamoxifen because it can be harmful to the unborn baby.

NOt sure where your doctor gets the 5 years from. There is no evidence that pregnancy increases recurrence. I didn't wait and ended up having my son 2.5 years after diagnosis. Am nearly 4 years out now and all seems well.

You know you don't have to do what your doctor says. They are there to advise you, but it is your call what you do with your body.

I think that the standard treatment for ER/PR+ for a premenopausal woman includes tamoxifen for 5 years, but if you're not on the tamoxifen or no other estrogen blocking drug then I don't see why you shouldn't try to become pregnant. There are beliefs that pregnancy can increase your risk of recurrence (with all the surging hormones and such) but I don't think it's been proven. Maybe get a second opinion?

Yes! I think a second opinion will be my next step! I love my oncologist and I know he is just being cautious! But it's my body my decision!!
