No PET-CT scan or tumor markers
A little freaked out because I have had a stiff neck for the past 5-6 weeks. Been to the chiropr. and had a full body massage. Felt better for a day or so but then right back to point A.
Finished tx in February and started tamoxifen. Have managed with all SE until now and my onc tells me that he will NOT do any scans or even blood work at my 4 month checkups. I feel awesome except for the neck pain and collerbone pain however it seems crazy to me to not do tests to be sure that the cancer is gone and tamoxifen is doing what it should.
ANYONE ELSE NOT HAVE TESTS DONE?

Cindi, did your ONC say why he wouldnt do the scans? I have IDC too and have never had one. From what I understand scans are typical for bcs like lobular carcinoma which is what my sister has. I have had bloodwork at the 6 month checkup with my Onc but that was to see how the Arimidex was affecting my bones. Maybe the pain is because of the tamoxifen?

I was only told that is was "bad medicene" procedure. I also know many IDC women that have had scans and tumor markers. He also told me that it really didnt matter because if the cancer had a recurrance that it would not be cureable. I find that very disheartning. If found soon enough I dont understand why you could not treat it???!!! And I dont understand why you would wait until it is so developed before running any tests. He doesnt even want to do blood work.
If there is another explanation out there, I would like to know about it

Part of his decision might depend on your bc profile, which you haven't mentioned. If you feel like sharing that with us, somebody might be able offer an opinion.

I had the same symptoms as you do, and the same concerns. My general doctor was convinced that it was a disc problem. I was sur it was mets.
X-ray and MRI showed severly collapsed discs in my neck. I guess that is why she is the doctor.
I suggest you see your everyday doctor and rule out everyday issues before heading for the oncologist.
Keep us posted.
