Question about Sleeves
I have Stage 0 arm LE. I have a a Juzo ready made sleeve in the correct size. My arm measures the same as when i got my sleeve. Right now I just wear it when lifting weights. today I noticed the silicone grippers/dots left marks in my arm...I have not noticed that before...although I cant say it hasnt happened...But I would have thought I would notice that. is this normal? Arent we trying to avoid this type of thing? I fly in 2 days...So now I am worried about wearing my sleeve flying.

Deja, maybe it's just a little reaction to the silicone. Can you put something non-constricting but that will stay in place, to serve as a liner between you and the grippers? Perhaps cut the cuff off a knee-high stocking? That way you can see if it's a reaction to the silicone, as opposed to your arm a bit bigger (dratted swelling) and the grippers leaving an indentation because of added arm girth. I'm hoping for the former. And I'll bet Binney or someone with more sleeve experience will have more ideas for you. I hate to think of you skipping the sleeve for your flights.
Binney, if my suggestion is not something Deja should try, you'll let us know, right?

Dejaboo, what kind of marks? Are they only indentations, or are they looking red and sorta angry?
Edited to add, Carol and I were posting at the same time. Her suggestions sound good to me. Do try it out before you travel if you can. I had a Juzo sleeve suddenly start leaving vivid red dots all along the band--before that it was only indentations that lasted awhile. The redness is worrying, for sure, and I agree that if it's a reaction to the silicon a layer between it and your arm should help. Maybe some Artiflex. Something thin and non-binding anyway. In my case, it was summer and I was sweaty when that happened, so perhaps it had to do with that and they'll be fine if I stay cool, but I haven't tried them again since then.

Thanks Ladies! Binney it is just indentations...no redness at all...Just marks like my Socks leave on my ankles.
So this is normal- or at least ok to have it leave indentations? I only had my sleeve on an hour. 40 minutes later I can still feel the marks...but they are going away.
I will have my sleeve on for most of the day on Wednesday (about 10 hrs or so) Not all flying...but the time before & after & I have a layover.
Carol my underarm measures the same as the day I got my sleeve..And Actually it may be 1/4" less

Dejaboo, yeah, that sounds normal. Do some extra self-mld and see if that helps. I don't think layering anything underneath the silicone will help with just the indentations, but you might want to take something along (artiflex?) in case the area starts to feel irritated.
Have a great trip!

Great, Thank you very much for your help!

Didnt want to start a new topic so thoiugh I dont have an issue with a sleeve (yet) I do have questions.
I ordered my first sleeve today- a lymphediva (and btw I was so bold as to ask for a discount on the fashion thread and the pres. said she will give any of us participating 20% off , ladies!)
Anyway, I will need a seperate glove. Let me ask - what can I go with the gauntlet portion then ?
Can I just kind of " take it off" in a way and then put the glove on ?
Seems like both would be <more> uncomfortable.Also- I know this is mild right now.
Suggestions as to how long to use this pre during and post exercise ?
(No plans for flying)
Thanks very much, Ladies! -
Originally they gave me sleeves with silicone. I hated them and found them irritating. My LE PT told me I didn't need silicone because I had thin arms. Only those with larger arms (She actually said Oprah arms
) need them to prevent them from rolling/falling down. My problem was they also gave me sleeves that were too short so that's part of the irritation issue. I switched to longer sleeves with no silicone… almost 2 years ago and I'm doing great. My upper arms are even a little bigger because I strength train but still no need for silicone.
I get off the shelf product and it works just fine for me.

Rayray
My DR didnt order anything.
The LE PT did and faxed my PCP to write the RX.
I need a glove and a sleeve . The Lymphedivas dont come with the glove.
The girl who fitted me said I would most likey wear during exercise and flights.
I am quite sure my PCP knows nada about LE.

Purple I wore the gloves for about 1.5 years. My LE MD said that very rarely does he see someone that could wear a glove right off the shelf. My off the shelf glove fit well but because I have long fingers the fingers were a little short. My LE MD didn't have a problem with that because my fingers didn't swell… actually my hand doesn't swell either so after a year my LE MD told me to try without the glove. It's been a year and I haven't had a problem but do carry my glove just in case.
I did prefer the glove to the gauntlet. Better for typing.
-
I need the glove- rings no longer fit.
Mine wont be right off the shelf---they measured.
Sorry this is difficult to articulate !
-
Purple, maybe you could pass the gauntlet on to one of the other gals who do wear gauntlets. Since your fingers swell you'll probably never be a candidate for the gauntlet. For goodness sake don't wear both together--too much compression and unpredictably distributed on your hand.
Did that kind of answer the question?

I would love to pass the gauntlet on, but in the catalogue it LOOKS like the gauntlet is attached to the sleeve...no????!!
If not, the Lotus Dragon tattoo one is up for grabs, and I also plan on getting onyx black. Maybe someone could look on the lymphediva website to see what I am referring to.The sleeve is a small.
PS IF NOT attached, I would love a trade for an MLD video or informational booklet, but NOT necessary.
-
Purple, go to that site and double click on the picture of the Lotus Dragon Set. Then run your cursor over the picture and it should give you an enlarged close-up of wherever you place the cursor. Go to the wrist area and you can just make out the cuff of the gauntlet over the sleeve.
In fact, if you just want to order the sleeve and not the gauntlet, it's considerably cheaper ($90 instead of $145). Here's the sleeve page:
http://www.lymphedivas.com/store/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=45You'll notice that the pictures on that page ALSO show the sleeve WITH the gauntlet. That is because they used to have, in all their advertising (not just the catalog) pictures of women wearing ONLY a sleeve with no hand protection. When we brought it to their attention that that was not a good idea they consulted with their medical consultant (who is Dr. Andrea Cheville, one of our research heroes
), she agreed that was risky and she wrote a page for them about why it was important to wear hand protection with a sleeve. So now, because they don't want to harm anyone by suggesting it's okay to wear just a sleeve, they ALWAYS show sleeves with their gauntlets.
But they don't insist that you buy their gauntlets whenever you buy a sleeve.
Whew!
Binney
P.S--With the money you save buying just the sleeve you can buy a DVD, an entire book, and a whole pound of quality chocolate to go along with it. -
hmmm......does the chocolate help the swelling in the arm, betcha it does
-
Exactly, and with a wild print sleeve the chocolate smears don't even show. Perfect combo!
Binney -
You're a gem, Binney!
Thanks so much- I will have to call the woman that measured me and see if she faxed in for the gauntlet last Friday.
