24 facing local recurrence after BMX chemo and tamoxifen

I'm 24 yrs old and was just diagnosed with a local recurrence... I had AC and taxol and was on tamoxifen and still a lump formed - my dr.s swore it had to be nothing because I had a BMX but sure enough it was cancer, hanging out right under my lumpectomy scar... I started chemo literally a year ago so it's been under a year. I'm scared about what this means for my future... My mastectomy pathology was 100% cancer free ( I did chemo first) I had scans to confirm I'm still stage 1 and my lymphnodes are clear... But how does this happen? What does this mean? I know I need radiation and have excepted it but I'm so scared..

Katie - Talk to your MO about your concerns. It's my understanding that chemo is given to try to protect against distant mets and radiation is to prevent local recurrance. Hopefully, the radiation will take care of any stray cells that have been left behind. Big hugs to you. I'm so sad that you are dealing with BC at your age.

Hi Katie, I'm very sorry to hear of your recurrence so soon after aggressive treatment. I can imagine some of what you are feeling.



You might want to seek opinions from a few doctors on the best way to manage your condition, maybe see a doctor who has expertise with young patients at a leading cancer centre.



Hopefully some younger ladies will share their treatment experiences here.



I hope you get the necessary treatment to be able to put cancer behind you permanently.

I am so sad to read this. You must be shocked...after all you went through to get rid of the cancer! Ugh! I hate this for you. It all sucks...surgery, chemo (super sucky) and now radiation. I starts rads soon too. I will be thinking of you.
