New findings on MRI

Hi,

I was diagnosed on 10/10/12 with IDC low grade, estrogen/prog positive, tumor is 1.3 x .9 x .9 cm, according to ultrasound findings. I am scheduled for a lumpectomy on 11/02, but now there is a new wrinkle. I had a MRI on Thurs. and something "lit" up in the same breast. They told me it was 6-7mm...first they called it a nodule, then the Dr.'s office referred to it as a satellite. I was brought in for an ultrasound but nothing can be seen. So now I will have another biopsy done on the new nodule guided by MRI. My original mass is at 6 o'clock, this one is at 3 - thus it could be in the same quadrant or not. I have been trying to find information on; a. If it is another cancer, can I still have lumpectomy (don't know if this would be considered bifocal) b. Has anyone had an experience like this where something new has "lit" up and upon biopsy found out that it was a false positive finding. How common isnthis? I know MRIs are very sensitive. I would love to hear from anyone who may have had a similar experience.

Thank you and God bless you all.

HI Maria,  I am very similar.  I had a 2cm at 6pm and a smaller sattelite tumor nearby at 9pm.  I had a lumpectomy and my cosmetic outcome is good.  My BC breast is smaller and I have an indent in it, but I really did not want a mastectomy and the indent is barely noticable any more and if so, only by me, no one else.  Mastectomy is major surgery and so many have had complications. For me, since lumpectomy and rads has same success as mastectomy, it made sense to go with less invasive suregry. They said If I wanted later, I could get a small 'divot" type implant in.  Its not been necessary . Good luck.
