What rearly are the benefits - i have read up on this oil it seems it has so many health benefits, including ( so i read ) helping to prevent breast cancer returning, i have bought a book called 101 things to do with olive oil, very interesting. Taking a tablespoon of this oil first thing in the morning is suppose to be best to get maximim benefits. I suppose so many things are said to help reduce risk of cancer returning. How do you feel about this does anyone else take olive oil daily. I guess i just hope it helps. They must find a cure .

Don't know if it helps a recurrence, but I use it for everything since I'm a vegan. I get the extra light - I think it tastes the best.

For sure, oil is a lot better for you than butter or margarine

I live in Greece, so virtually all the fat I consume is in the form of olive oil. We cook with it and even make sweets with it. Usually I try to get virgin oil from friends and family, so I know where it is grown and how it is produced.

A classic Greek sweet for lent is halva:

    1 part olive oil

    2 parts coarse semolina

    3 parts sugar

    4 parts water

Bring water and sugar to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved. You can add a cinnamon stick and a piece of lemon peel to the syrup if you like. Turn off heat. In a separate, deep, heavy pan on medium heat, stir together the oil and semolina and keep stirring until the semolina is lightly browned and smells lightly toasted. Pull pan off heat and add syrup. Be careful, it can splutter. Put back on heat and stir and cook until it thickens and pulls away from side of pan. Add nuts or raisins if you like. Pour into some sort of pan, and let it cool. When cool, cut in squares or slices and dust with cinnamon before serving.

Thanks for posting this. Though I've read a few books on cancer and nutrition, I hadn't heard EVOO touted as helping to prevent cancer. But a quick google search showed that some people think it may help (there have been studies, so I suppose we could find more on PubMed).  Here's some info from the LiveStrong website:

"Depending on how much they are processed or how many times they are pressed, the antioxidant and nutrient profile changes and produces different types of olive oil. The first cold press of the olive produces “Extra Virgin” olive oil. It is extracted from the olive without any heat or chemicals and is considered to be the best form of olive oil to consume. It is closest to the natural state of the olive, and it contains the most concentrated source of cancer preventing phytochemicals. "
