How do you define stable in regards to our arms with lymphedema

Looks, size, feel, measurements from a fitter or PT? How long should it take the arm to become stable, stay stable? I did 9 months of PT changed PT's, was released, went back and forth to the first after reconstructive surgeries and then back to check the arm.  How many have their arms go back to pre-lymphedema size? How many people never get back to pre-lymphdema size (except me)? According to Solaris my arm measurements (up to the time this new fitter took over 12/11) were consistant/stable. Now I am second guessing myself and every thing these days. It is getting frustrating at best. I do not want to go back to PT - they want to wrap indefinately using no foam or padding. I have an area that flares and love and need a good fitting night sleeve. New fitter will not order night sleeve w/o paper work doctor can not supply. Can't go back to old fitter(s). I am stuck, frustrated and don't know what to do or where to turn. Family does not understand. I am not giving up the fight about my sleeves but it wears a person down.

Jennifer, I don't quite understand. It has been my experience that anyone of my doctors can write a prescription for night sleeves, including my GYN! And you take the prescription to your fitter or therapist and they will order the garment.

    What am I missing?

Well that is how it should be but the fitters here want the RX with diagnosis code, actual doctors diagnosis along with the notes from the last office visit that must indicate I was seen for lymphedema. Well I don't have the last item they want so they are not wanting to order sleeves for me. The insurance company does not require this either.

Can you get a appointment with your doctor specifically for your LE?  Would that cover the bases?

    Jennifer

Since my PCP did not DX my LE  he asked me to fax an anecdotal record with dates of first symptoms and  DX and TX plan etc so that he could Rx for sleeves and PT.

    It worked.
