How long before you are sewing up your glove?

Just wondering how many of you who wear gloves are repairing them? It seems that my gloves fall apart more quickly these days. I have Jobst custom class 2, and they are coming apart along the fingers at three months! I fix them with thread, it has not made any difference in the swelling, but, for the price I thought they would last longer. Have been wearing a glove since 2010.

Diane, that sure doesn't sound right to me!Frown You're so right--these are pricey accessories, and they doggone sure better not fall apart on us. Contact your fitter and/or Jobst and see what they'll do to make it right. Darning our gloves at three months just doesn't get it.Surprised

Keep us posted, please. Be well,
    Binney

Diane, are the Jobst ones Elvarex? My elvarex gloves stretch at the fingertip ends and that causes them to "catch" and stretch more. I've had issues with them splitting too. I started wearing nylon stretch gloves over them daily -I cut the fingertips of the gloves off a little higher than my LE glove. That has really cut down the stretching and the wear and tear on the fingers/fingertips. http://www.gallawayb2b.com/Products/Inspection-Gloves/Stretch-Nylon-Inspectors-Gloves. They also keep them MUCH cleaner!! My life has changed with these gloves. Someone here recommended them to me. Try them and see if that helps. I also increased the circumference of my fingers by 1/2 cm. That has helped with the splitting too. I think my last ones were a little too small and I had to stretch the fingers out with batteries each night ( or my fingers would go numb) which put pressure on the seams. I'm hoping when Solaris comes out with their new daytime product, I will like it better. I finally got everything to fit well, so I don't want to switch brands right now.

Thanks GottaloveNED, they are Elvarex.  I would love to try the gloves but your link does not work for me.  The sizing works good for my fingers at the moment so I as well would not like to switch right now

My sleeves and gloves are custom Juzo. I have never had to do any sewing on them. It's my understanding that they are to be replaced every 3 months anyway if you only have one. I get 2 new ones every 6 months and alternate them. I do still some that are older that I wear occasionally (when mucking stalls, fishing, working on vehicles/yard/etc.) to keep the new ones 'nicer'.

Even within a manufacturer, I have noticed considerable variation.  I just got new custom garments from Juzo.  The juzo soft sleeve arrived with a large dangling thread at the wrist, and the (regular) juzo expert glove had several smaller dangling threads at various seams.  I toyed with returning them, but they fit so I just cut the threads back and hope it doesn't affect their life expectancy.

The material and the seams on my juzo silver expert gloves seem to be much fragile than on my regular juzo expert gloves.  After < 2 months, my juzo silver glove is pretty shot.  I'm hoping that with the cooler weather my skin will tolerate the regular fabric juzo because replacing gloves every 2 months is mighty pricy!  KS

KS--instead of cutting loose threads I have taken to carefully "burning and sealing" them with the hot end of recently lit match. It melts it and does not turn into a major pull or seam opening.

On the Barton Carey the elastic at the bottom tends to rip away after a while. I actually stil wear these from time to time...since that part is over the sleeve it has not been a big problem. But I don't swell around there (yet)

Diane, sorry about the link. It didn't work for me either. The company's name is Galloway safety & supply and the product is stretch nylon inspectors gloves. They come in ladies and men's one size fits all -I get the ladies. They are $7.00 a dozen and because they are not hand specific, you get 24. I heard you can dye them, but I leave them white so I can bleach them. When they get too dirty, I throw them away. Like I said, I just cut the fingertips off a little longer than my gloves and it helps with the wear and tear on the fingers. I highly recommend them.

I am not-so-patiently waiting for Solaris to roll out their tribute day line. The elvarex is OK but I'm always on the lookout for the next thing. Pus, their customer service is better (at least with my experiences so far). I'm also interested in seeing how the ready wrap product for upper extremities looks and functions. I don't need to bandage often, but it's nice to have options for flare-ups.

I have an Elvarex glove too, got it at the end of June.  The inside of the thumb is completely split from the joint to the tip.  It is still together at the tip, but that is it.  My PT told me he thinks the quality has not been the same recently.  He said he believes they changed where they are being made.  I had one in January that never ripped at all.

My problems were with the Jobst gauntlet. Right out of the box you could see a hole in the seam between thumb & finger. It ran as I tried it on. The fitter said she would send it back to the company. She brought out a couple more that were in stock: same problem. I took the one that had the open area in the least stressable spot but ended up stitching it together myself...

Went with Juzo for the glove and it has been fine.

    Hi

Would those inspection gloves in a mens size go over the bandages?

The ladies gloves have a lot of give, so maybe? The are not very expensive... $8.00 or so for 24. It's worth a try.
