Hi everyone,

my mother has been diaganosed with IDC on 18th septmeber, she had her surgery and after her biopsy report, it says she has IDC, 5.1 cm tumor, Grade 3, ER 80-90% +ve /PR 50-60% +ve and Her2nue 2+(waiting for FISH result). Also it says very annoying thing. i.e.:

"1 out of 18 lymp nodes +ve for metastatic carcinoma with extra capsular spread". (this is annoying me) like is the cancer type metastatic? what is it? does this effect cancer stage? Someone told me its Stage 3A... is it ok?

Kindly guide me as i am too worried about her.

Thanks.

    Hi lady_pak,

In addition to the helpful advice you'll surely receive from the other members here, you may be interested in reading up on the main Breastcancer.org site's section called Your Diagnosis for information on what each piece of your mom's pathology report means. Specifically, the page on Lymph Node Involvement could answer some of your questions.

    Hope this helps!

Hi there, my mom was just dx as well:(. I know how hard this can be for you. My mom is scheduled to have surgery this Thursday, all I know is that she has two areas with DCIS and one with IDC. She is going to have a bilateral mastectomy by choice. The cancer is in the left breast, will not know any thing else until post op. I am still learing more about this and wish I had answers for you. But, just want to say sending prayers your way and feel free to contact me anytime:)

Sounds like she is stage 3...extracapsular extension means the cancer has spread beyond the capsule that encases the lymph node.

She is at a treatable stage, for sure...about the same spot I was 7 years ago.

Hang on...waiting for treatment is hard.

Check out the links already mentioned re specifics of her pathology. Stage 3 also has their own board, plenty of good encouraging info there as well.
