Our gal MT (Melly) who posts in the Living Without Reconstruction Forum was recently featured in a news video. She has been participating in a Renewal Water Exercise class at the JCC in Manhattan and found it helpful for working with her frozen shoulder, stretching and experiencing what it's like to live breast free. Mel's intent for the video was to "represent" for those of us who choose not to reconstruct as an alternative to the publicity for Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day this month. I had asked Mel if she could possibly mention lymphedema during her interview (you ladies know I question how responsible recon is for causing LE). I don't know if she did, or it may have been how the instructor defined the purpose of the class. Either way, ladies, lymphedema was mentioned in this news story and in connection with aquatic therapy! October - it's not just for the rosy side of breast cancer awareness anymore! Yippee! And I think she looks just marvelous as an example of living breast and form free. Thanks, Melly!

Here's a news release by the hospitals that partner to provide the aquatic therapy class. Apparently not all breast surgeons deny the existence of LE as a consequence of BC treatment:

The course instructor, Ms. Teri Dupuy, is a participant of the Aquatic Therapy & Rehab Institute. Their course catalog includes a session on lymphedema and breast cancer and also offers certification in Ai Chi. Here's a link to their site:
