Cyberknife tomorrow
Well almost to the year, since my diagnosis of IBC, I had emergency surgery to remove two tumors that were pressing down on my spinal chord. Now I have the cyberknife tomorrow to remove the other four. I have really high hopes. It's been a long 2 weeks. I was travelling for work in NJ (I'm from Maine) and talk about being in the right time at the right place. I'm so lucky. We don't have this tech in Maine. Being stuck in a hotel recooping has been tough. BUt my husband is here (on FMLEA) and I'm actually working a little .. a little I excited, but nervous. I told him i would be around another 20 years but I'd settle for 5 .. prob too much to ask. But I'm here now !!!
Has anyone else gone thru this .. any encouraging words? Are there lots of us out there!!

Hi Phyllis - no experience with cyberknife but wanting to wish you all the best and send healing vibes for a speedy recovery.

A friend of mine who had late stage lung cancer kept mets at bay for a really long time thanks to the cyber knife.

Phyllis,
Just wanted to say I am thinking of you from another Mainer. I'm actually only a couple towns over from you. Good luck!!

Hoping Cyberknife works its magic and gets you great results, Phyllis. Good luck!

It went really really well. No pain no fatigue at all. This hospital is awesome down here. Folks are great. Kinda bummed I have to come back in two weeks for more treatment, but they want the cavity (from where the two tumors were removed to heal better). That's cool with me

Glad to hear it went so well. Yay!!!

hi there, can anyone tell me what the cyber knife preocedure is. what does it involve? just curious about it. thanks

Hi Midnight132 -
I've only had one so far. It lasted an hour. 2nd one is tommorrow. This will take care of the 4 tumors on top. They physically removed 2 last week, but need for that cavity to heal until they zap that one. It's painless. You close your eyes (which is easy because you'll be wearing a mesh face net) and the machine moves around you. They gave me ativan (a relaxer) and you can listen to a CD (music or book). You can go back as many times as you need. I'll have mri's every 3 months so they can stay on top of them. It's way better than whole brain treatment as you don't risk cognitive skills, etc. If you have any questions please feel free to post to me. thx phyl

Hi Phyl, i was just curious as to what it was, i am not sure whether they do it in New Zealand or not. Did you have a headache before they stumbled apon your mets. Just as i had to go the A&E as i woke up last week with this crushing headache, between my ear and temple, it was like 10 and a half outta ten and blood tests not reveal anything, but a week later, the head ache is present, a dull ache, it will go away with strong pain relief, but is just sitting there, and i try not to be Paranoid and think every pain is cancer mets, you so do at times, mets is always at the back of a womens mind after DX BC. mum is urging to go back to Doc, GP, which is equivalent to your MD and see him, the hospital did say if the head ache did persist to go back and they would give me a brain scan. i also get mild vertigo at times and a watery left eye. i have in the past had meneaires disease and those attacks are horible, real bad vertigo there, it is similar to that, but much milder, it just sits there at moment, no better, no worse. i dont know whether to go back or not and get it seen to. as the bloods were normal. thanks for answer about cyber knife. sounds heaps better than other brain treatment. P/s i really hope that everything goes well for you and that it all works out wonderfully for you. i was too busy asking about my own problem, and thinking gosh this lady needs all the support you can give her. worrying about myself sorry. warm hugs xxx

I did and had complained about 8 weeks prior. I had an occular migraine (which i've never had prior) .. lights in the right corner of my eye. Poor walking (walked like drunk, but minus the alcohol
). My tumor was HER2+++ ... a 20-25% more of having brain mets. I'm not sure about the stats for her2 neg. Don't think you're being paranoid. They gave me a neck MRI and told me I had a bulging cervical disc. Well yeah .. I had tumors pressing down on my spinal chord. Ask for an MRI .. make sure you have a brain and neck. Listen to your body. If something doesn't feel right, then it doesn't. I wanted to hear that it was bulging disc .. heck who wants cancer
I'm more pissed at myself than anything. But I really think I'm going to be ok. If I live my life in 3 month increments that's ok. I'm here with my husband, kitties and horses NOW and that's all that matters.
