Liver enzymes elevated - Liver Mets?

Options

I have had mild discomfort for the past week on the mid/upper right abdominal side and my liver enzymes were slightly elevated.  AST & ALT are both over the limit and my ALK has slowly climbed over the past 18 mos. from 65 to 149.  I have rheumatoid arth. and have taken methotrexate for years and the onc. thinks its related to the methotrexate.  I have stopped it and will get new blood work in a few weeks.  I am 5 yrs. out and am so very worried about liver mets.  Does this sound like it could be liver mets?  I am currently taking anastrazole.

    Howdy Somerset!

I have liver mets and my AST & ALT labs were never elevated. Also, during chemo, I developed a pain in my right side, right in between the bottom two ribs. It has nothing to do with my cancer as my liver mets are now either gone or too small to be seen by PET/CT. My ONC and BS and RO (yes, I asked all of them) all called it "referred pain" most likely caused by gastric issues in my duodenum brought on possibly by chemo. I feel it mostly when I drink liquids but it can arise on its own.

Even though your symptoms don't match the way my mets presented, it is good that your are seeking info from your docs.

Hi Somerset - another liver metster here. My mets were discovered about a week after mx - never felt a thing. Definitely a good thing that you are getting everything checked out. Hoping that it is just a SE from the methotrexate.

Hang in there - keep us posted.

When my liver mets were discovered, my liver enzymes were elevated and I had pain in my right side. So, yes, they are indications that you could have liver mets, But they could also be related to many different things, as your dr thinks it is.

I would try to relax and not think the worst.
