Aurora Breast MRI - Successfully Detects Extent of DCIS
Hi all,
I just came from having an Aurora Breast MRI and it was awesome! I felt I needed to pass along to all my sisters who are in similar shoes.
I had a fluid cyst removed and found 52mm of DCIS in the lining and did not get clear margins. After a regular MRI was done shortly after surgery which was useless, my surgeon has recommended mastectomy. He kept stating we don't know where the DCIS is and didn't want to gamble with a 2nd lump because he bet we would not get clear margin again. I've heard of many women who have several lumps trying to get clear margin.
Well, there is a way to identify how much DCIS is contained within the breast! You can go to http://www.auroramri.com/ to read more information about the MRI machine and find locations who use this machine in the "locations" section. The Aurora MRI is the only MRI machine build and designed for breast only & FDA approved. My MRI did not only pick up all DCIS within the ducts but also showed images of my lymp nodes under arms as well which can detect cancer within lymp nodes. It is very unique although looks similar to other MRI machines. Dr. Stephen Harms has the patent on this machine and you can read more by goggling his name.
The radiologist reviewed my MRI pics with me and they were extremely clear. All DCIS did show up as bright white within the ducts. It was well worth my 4 hr. trip to the Knoxville TN Comprehensive Breast Center to have this MRI and now collaborating with my radiologist, surgeon, etc. I feel I am making the best choices for me. The radiologist was able to do several biopsies based on the MRI findings and we now know I do have extensive DCIS and if a lump had been attempted, I would not have gotten clear margins by just guessing.
I hope you find the information helpful in your situation and I encourage everyone to ask questions, get 2nd opinions and do research to ensure you make the best decisions and best treatment for you.
Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or comments.
God Bless and Good Luck,
Brenda

Brenda,
I have an Aurora RODEO breast MRI every year with Dr. Steven Harms in Fayetteville AR. Dr. Harms has a GE MRI and an Aurora MRI in his office and although I admit he might be biased, he says there is no comparison. The Aurora is that much better.
Personally, the Aurora MRI has saved me from an unnecessary mastectomy and several unnecessary biopsies. These MRIs have a one percent false negative rate, so have been a very valuable screening tool for me as well. There are many locations through out the country.
Thanks for posting this info,
Sandie
