Help with issue above scar line
Hi There,
Eight months ago I had my expanders replaced with the gummy implants. I deleloped MRSA so I ended up having another surgery where they went in again and cleaned and replaced the implants.
Slightly above the scar line where they doctor went in I feel an ever so faint line-like a thin piece of string/ridge is under the skin. It's not a lump but a tiny ridge like thing. It's long ish. I guess I am scared it's a reoccurence. Well actually I am super scared. When I pull the skin on either side it flattens out. I am wondering if it might be a ripple?

I had pieces of string come up from under my skin around my scar a few months after surgery and the surgeon said it was suture. Supposedly that stuff is supposed to eventually dissolve, but mine was too close to the surface. After a few weeks it broke through the skin and I pulled it out with tweezers.

Pure,
I understand your concern, but I think I'd probably apply the "if it looks like a horse don't look for zebra stripes" maxim here. The most obvious explanation is that the implants are the cause. Feel free to let your PS know, and don't spend time worrying too much!

Around this time two years ago, I felt two pea-sized bumps under my port scar. My GP and my onc both weren't sure what they were. My onc sent me to a surgeon. She knew right away what they were...scar tissue that had formed around sutures closing the area where my port had been. I feel them every so often to see if they've grown, but they haven't. I'm betting what you have is something similar.

I have always felt a ridge-like structure at the top of my implant. Never changes after being installed six years ago. I don't think cancer grows in a straight line that feels like string. But your post is interesting, Pure, just shows we never totally get rid of the fear, do we. Weesa

Hey sweeti, don't worry yourself to much over this... I have alot of lumpy bimpy stuff in my breast, I think we do tend to get wierd scar tissue. Plus we have no breast tissue, so we feel everything and then we obsess over it. Breath, run it past your PS...But, try not to stress to much.....Praying so much for you...
lots of love

Thank you Steph... I am going to talk with my PM tomorrow:)
Celtic-Thank you for sharing. I was told that with the radiated side and that it had been open so much I would have "stuff" come up. I just did't expect this soon.
1Athena-I love your comment...:) I think I am notorious for looking for zebra stripes.
Kathleen I am not sure it's that but it's funny you say that because I do have that happening around my nipple area so now I know what that might be.
Weesa nope the fear never goes away. I spent 6 years obsessing about my husband dying and I am track to spend the next 6 worrying about mine. It all comes flooding back in a moment and then you have to work to gain back some confidence and faith. BC sucks..
Thank you everyone for the support. It's much appreciated!

Just a word of caution about pulling a stitch that sticks out above the suture line....I have one (thought it was a tiny scab, but the PS saw it and said it was a suture)....and thought about pulling it, but had visions of pulling a thread on a hem and having the whole thing come unraveled.
(I'm one-month out from Exchange.)
The PS said to leave it alone...pulling it out could leave a tiny hole the size of a pencil lead....which could lead to an infection, which leads to a bigger whole, and LOTS of problems down the road.
So I try to forget it's there. He says it will resolve eventually without my help.

i had the same thing as Celtic Spirit! Suture that had formed scar tissue around it. It sounds exactly like what you have! Don't worry but you'll get peace of mind when you see your PS...

Thanks Steph..I am not touching it lol I already got MRSA from the first exchange and had a hole.
Jacqueline-Thank you! Actually when I lay on my side I feel the line go around my implant. I am fairly certain its the edge of my implant.
