My 1 year Cancerversary!!!!!
Hi y'all:
It was one year ago today that I heard those dreaded words "you have breast cancer"! What a journey this has been for me and my family.
I never thought something so small (the lumps) could rock my world the way it has.....in a good way!
My family and I are even closer now, we treasure our time together. The world looks different to me....no more stressing out over trivial things and things I cannot control (grown sons, rofl). I decided that I was going to put my faith in God and let him handle it. HE has shown me just how many people care about me, I've been so uplifted in prayer by so many that my feet have barely touched the ground.
I just had my first post diagnosis mammo on Wednesday and got the much prized "ALL CLEAR". So now I'm just down to regular checkups, praise God.
I've learned more about myself and have found strength that I didn't know I had. My DH and I are very involved in our local breast cancer support group. Our town has a fund raiser event for breast cancer "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" and also "Strutting the Streets for Breast Cancer" and we are involved with that as well. I will decorate an umbrella to "strut around Dumont Plaza" with other survivors. My granddaughters will also enter the contest in my honor. I will walk the mile walk in memory of Marybe. There will also be a 5K run, 1 mile fun run and a "high heel dash".
My DH will run in pink high heels (about 3 inches, lol), pink tutu, pink tights, pink gloves and pink wig....he looks like he fell into a vat of pepto bismol, rofl! There are several doctors running in it as well as local media, businessmen and even a county supervisor. It's too funny to see those men run the 150 yds in heels. Last year my DH came in 4th (out of 7, lol). He's such a wonderful husband and this journey has been much harder on him than me. He said he wasn't worried about my mammo last week but had tears in his eyes when I told him it was all clear.
I've found comfort from the boards and really appreciate all the women who have replied to my questions and concerns. I have tried to help others like I have been helped by all the wonderful women on these boards.
Thanks y'all for being there for some of the darkest times of my life, because God guided me here, I was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
God bless y'all,
LaDonna

FilterLady - for me it was 2 years ago today when I heard those dreaded words. Yes - it does turn your world upside down.
Congratulations on a clear mammo it's always a relief to get those.
I agree too - these boards are amazing. The strength and support from everyone on here makes things just a little bit easier for all of us, we understand eachother in a way no-one else does.
Here's to many, many more years of clear mammos and u/s for all of us.
