Supporting Mom

My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago. She had a lumpectomy at the beginning of September and I was able to be with her for that surgery. The surgery went good and she healed good, but the cancer was still in her left breast. So, she just decided to get an double mastectomy. The surgery is the 25th of September(I'm so thankful they could get her in so soon). I'm unable to be with her since I just started a new job and i live in Florida and she lives in Maryland. What should I do? What do I since I'm so far away?

mvoso, I wished I had a good answer for you. Does she have someone that can help her at home after surgery? The first two weeks post/op is where I felt that my wife needed me the most, taking care of drains, showers, meals etc.... If you have someone that can be with her, you can be her "cheerleader" keeping her spirits up. Reading from this forum helped me alot about how to advise my wife. Best wishes to your mom and you.

 My mom has my dad and i know he will take good care of her. Thank you for the posts it really helps.

You could look into cleaning services for her AND your dad...sometimes they'll volunteer to help out cancer patients: )

Is there a neighborhood kid who would take care of the yard?

Send them pre-made meals...your dad will be very busy and mentally exhausted...your mama will be resting.
