Twisting Tourniquet Technique...in Thailand
Hi everybody,
I have been stuck in bed for a few days with a bad cold and as I was just plain bored, I spent some time surfing for.... new info about LE.
I found a pretty amazing video from Thailand. If you have never heard about TTT ( Twisting Tourniquet Technique), also named TTDT (Twisting Tourniquet Decongestive Technique), check this. It seems this technique is used to treat severe lymphedema.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60CEO7PSJ-s
It comes with the following text: Twisting Tourniquet Technique (TTT) is the new compression therapy for lymphedema treatment. It is very effective technique for reducing the swelling in the extremities. TTT is done by twisting the tourniquet for 15 minutes and release the tourniquet for at least 5 minutes, for 10 times a day.
More info: Blog of a japanese guy who visited a clinic in Thailand where TTT is used. Look at the pictures.... the tourniquet is "created" manually using pieces of cloth and a wooden stick.

It seems "extreme" compression is the only means used. No MLD, no exercise mentioned.
Binney, Kira, have you ever heard about this?

Hi everybody,
My name is Narumon Chanwimalueang, TTD Therapist from Thailand. I am 41 years old now. TTD is my Ph.D research work during 2006-2012. I invented the new version of TTD equipment that you have seen in VDO. It is not extreme compression, only 70-80-90 mg Hg. If the patient feel like a regular beat, throbbing, its indicate too much pressure, we must reduce the pressure.
I have shown the result picture of the patient (before-after TTD Treatment of both arm and leg). You can see our result in www.lymphedema-thailand.com (some part of data in the website are English). Now, our group plan to present our work in 24 ISL meeting between 16-20 September, 2013 in Rome, Italy. I will present in the title of "Ease of use and effectiveness of Twisting Tourniquet Decongestive Technique for gigantic lymphedema management" on 19 September 2013 about 3.00 pm.
I am plan to send the Ph.D work to be published in the journal in a few months. I am wish my work may be spread to international country, Europe, America, China, Indea, Australia. I think my work can help the millions number of suffering lymphedema patient. If anybody interest in my work, you can contack me directly by Email or Tel +66 85 368 2555. (Note: I am not good in English, but I am try to make you understand).

Narumon, thank you so much for coming here to post this information. It is exciting to see so much being done to help people with lymphedema all over the world. I'm glad you'll be at the ISL Congress in Rome. We have friends who will be there too--Michael Bernas from the ISL and Saskia Thiadens from the NLN. I hope they'll both be able to attend your presentation. We have discussed your technique with Michael before, and we were all very interested in it, so we'll look forward to hearing more about it, and to reading about your published results. One of the things that impressed me in the videos was the happiness of the people being treated--a very friendly and supportive atmosphere.
I wonder if you are using this treatment on all kinds of lymphedema--primary, secondary, filariasis?
Thank you for the work you do, and for caring about the problems we face with lymphedema,
Binney
