First Post Diagnosis Mammogram tomorrow!

Hi everyone,

I really thought I'd be less anxious than I am today.  I finished my rads in January and started letrozole with few side effects.  All my checkups with my MO and RO have been NED!

Now I feel like I'm going to have a meltdown today.....not able to concentrate on much, grouchy, etc.  But mostly, I think I'm terrified.  My mind keeps replaying my last mammo.  I know I'm blessed that the mammo picked it up and it was very, very early but I still feel that old feeling of dread creeping in.

I just need tomorrow morning to get her and it all to be over......I'm praying for "all clear".

I feel better just by posting this.....not really but trying to convince myself that it'll be fine.

Hi, LaDonna. I understand your feelings. I, too, was very nervous about my first mammo after treatment, because my BC was found in a routine mammogram.

My cancer center gives the results immediately for BC patients, which is great. But I didn't get the "all clear" because they were unable to see inside the breast tissue on my right (non BC) side. Long story short, I had to have a BSGI (radioactive dye scan) followed by an ultrasound, one week later, then I got the ALL CLEAR! I didn't think I was too worried, but when it was over I was so relieved!

It so happens that I have some really dense tissue on my right breast, on which I had a reduction to match my left lumpectomy breast. So the extra scans gave them a better look. They said I needed my next mammo in a year.

So, take some deep breaths, get your mammo (it didn't hurt any more than before!), and do something special for yourself. I'm hoping for an "all clear" for you too!

Thanks Barb, I really appreciate hearing your experiences.

The office where I get my mammos has a wonderful radiologist that gives you the results then and there if she can.  I never heard anything but "all clear" see you next year until 8/19/11.  That day she said "let's go down the hall to the ultrasound room".  I saw on the ultrasound why she wanted to get that view.

While I was getting dressed she made me an appointment with a surgeon for 2 days later!  I gotta say, I don't have a lot of patience, so I was ready.  I'm so thankful that I didn't skip my yearly mammogram.

I've tried deep breaths, etc....that works for a bit but then here I go again....thinking, lol.

Thank you for the encouragment and well wishes.  No one but someone who has been there, done that can understand why I'm on pins and needles despite my good reports from my MO and RO.  My DH says he's not worried at all but I think he is having flashbacks of last year too, but he'd never admit it today.

Here I go rambling on and on.  Thank you!

I was so scared when I went in last month for my first follow up mamogram I just about threw up in the waste basket in the waiting room.  (((hug)))

Oh no Cindy!  Bless your heart.

I am seriously trying to stay busy but cannot focus on anything for too long.  I know that the time will drag by in the morning till my appt time of 10:40.

Thanks for the hug, I needed that.

    Hi y'all:

My mammo came back "ALL CLEAR"!!!  I'll return every 6 months for 5 years for left boob and stay yearly on right boob.

I kept it together during the wait in the waiting room and during the changing into the gown.  But had a mini meltdown as I stepped up to the mammo machine....but the techs there are wonderful and understood my feelings completely.  They didn't rush to get it done and it really made me calmer.

Then another mini meltdown waiting to get results from radiologist.  She is the best around and I just love her so much, she's very caring and always takes time to address any questions or concerns without making you feel like you need to rush out.

Thanks for the hugs and prayers,

    LaDonna

Congratulations FilterLady! We're always thrilled to see an "ALL CLEAR," and your experience is a great reminder how warm and helpful and empathetic those techs are.
