My Biopsy Shows No "HER2+" - What is it HER2+?

Hi All:

My biopsy shows no info regarding HER2+. How would I know if it was?

My biopsy reads:

Left Breast, Lower Inner Quadrant, Needle Core Biopsy. Ductal Carcinoma In SITU with the following features:

Size (Extent of DCIS): DCIS Involves three cores with a maximum linear extent of 0.6cm

Location: Left Breast, Lower Inner Quadrant

Nuclear Grade: 1

Architectural Pattern: Cribiform, Papillary

Necrosis: Focal

Microcalcifications: Not identified

Estrogen Receptor: DCIS is positive (Allred score: 8/8)

Progestron Receptor: DCIS is positive (Allred score: 8/8)

    HER2 is not measured routinely for DCIS, only for invasive disease.  If you have invasive disease then there is a drug that is used for HER2+ women, however, that drug (Herceptin) is not useful for DCIS (or it has not be shown to be useful) - therefore, since it is not used to make treatment choices is not measured.  

    I hope this helps.  It looks like you have, at this point, favorable pathology (grade 1 is good, 6mm is good)!!  I will keep my fingers crossed that the final pathology concurs with what you  have so far.
