New to site--please advise! Any Type 1 diabetics out there?

Options

Just turned 50. In 2009 ( had DCIS in LB, removed clear margins radiation.  2012 new diagnosis rb IDC 1.5 cm, stage 1 HER neg, estrogen pos.  Family history of bc, but no genetic markers. July 16, 2012 lumpectomy--2 margins not clear with DCIS.  Reincision Aug 6--still had DCIS in margins, but bs convinced got it all as hit non-breast tissue.  Onc, bs, ro all say rad, antiestrogen meds enough for treatment, but scared about reoccurrence.  I am also a type 1 diabetic for 40 years.  Have not started radiation of rb yet, and am considering bmx instead.  Is this too much treatment for my diagnosis?  I seem to be seeing excellent doctors in NYC Sloan and related docs in NJ, and I want to follow their advice, but really scared I'm not doing enough.  I consulted a recon Dr today who said that since I have had rad in lb and diabetes my only choice would be implants.  Any thoughts?

Jacqueline,  I'll try to hook you up with a friend of mine in LA who is undergoing chemo (first treatment today) for IDC and who is Type 1 Diabetic.  She has a lot of questions as well.  I'm surprised to see how few posts about being Type 1 are here on the boards., You all must be rare birds.

Good luck with everything.  Hopefully my friend will respond to you. I don't know how often she comes to the boards or if she participates but I do know she does read the threads from time to time.

    All the best to you!

You have more options for recon. There is diep sx. I am 2 weeks out from mine. I dont have type one, but my dd is 16 now, dx at 9.

Its your oersonal choice if you dont feel like living with your boobs then get rid of them.

I had my initial mast with TE at sloan with dr morrow, dr desa was my PS. She got great margins, but the care i recieved there was poor.

Do what your gut tells you.
