Breast cancer and prediabetes

Many of us who are rabid researchers know about the possibility of metformin reducing the likelihood of breast cancer. The clinical trials on this are being done at Mt
Sinai Hospital in Toronto.

We also might have heard about the increased likelihood of recurrence if you have diabetes or prediabetes.

There's a lot of research bring done on cancer as a comorbidity of diabetes and prediabetes, but I can't get my GP to take it seriously.

The American Diabetic Association and the World Health Organization have changed their diagnostic criteria for prediabetes. The ADA has also revised its treatment guidelines to include metformin for prediabetes if lifestyle modifications are not happening or not working to bring down blood sugar.

The Canadian clinical guidelines (http://www.diabetes.ca/for-professionals/resources/2008-cpg/) don't push metformin very hard, and my GP is reluctant to prescribe it, even though I now I have a HbA1c test coming in at 0.06, well into the prediabetes range.

Does anyone know how I might be able to get a referral to someone who can thoughtfully determine whether I can get on Metformin, guided by recent research, not 4 year old CDA guidelines?

Does anyone know someone in the Toronto area who might be good?

Thanks!
