Hi Ladies,

Waiting to see my RO on Monday to discuss why I'm getting red so quickly. I guess I just have sensitive skin. I'm feeling ok. Just tired and a little sore...not bad though. Doing the Race for the Cure tomorrow. I know I'll be exhausted after that.

In the mean time...just keeping the lotion flowing to help protect myself! Thanks for the concern!!

I would not have been able to work the last few weeks of radiation....the first month was ok, but at the end I was tired, burned, and foggy. I actually don't even remember the time that well, it's odd.

Just finished second round of rads to hips myself. Last zap was Thursday, and I had 10 tx. This round made me VERY tired, but I never lost my appetite with this one. On the contrary. Also had pain for a few days IN hips, but that went away as well. Just resting the last few days to bank some strength as I go back to work Monday after 3 months out!

Jeni - I didn't get red lke you, but I was really itchy and sensitive skin from day one. You'll be ok!

Hi Ladies..I am new to this thread. I just finished 28 rounds on right side after mx and I am burnt. It is hurting and looks whelped up under my arm especially. RO gave me a prescription for sulfadene cream to put on morning and night and aquaphor inbetween.

Also under (right breast if I had one) is very burnt.

But RO said this was normal. I really like her but I trust your input so much more than theirs.

I did take them a dessert on my last day and wrote on the box "Thanks for burning the hell out of me".

Just wanted to see if this was (normal). Thank you so much!

Terry - I got very burnt too, and was given prescriptions for 2-3 different creams in the last two weeks of the treatments. I continued to burn for 10-14 days afterwards ... they had told me about this, but I still found it hard to believe. After things began to heal and I stopped using the prescription creams, I discovered that Neutrogena body oil -- sesame formula -- seemed to reduce the redness. Apparently sesame oil is good for burns.

Thank you Lou..I will try that. They told me that it would get worse before it gets better and it would take about 2 weeks. Under my arm I see bits and pieces of like white patches. Is that the new skin trying to come back or just the peeling? They gave me pain meds also because it is hurting so bad. Did you have to get pain meds?

It just seemed like a bad sunburn when I got the radiation 33 treatment with the last 6 being boost. I used Aquaphor. I finished my radiation in April. Now had my first round of check ups in July and August, Mammograms, oncologist, breast surgeon and they say all looks good. Now I find I am getting itching on my upperside of the breast, cream helps but I didn't expect to get itching of any sort again. Did any one get itching later on?

Terry-yes the bits and pieces of white skin are new skin forming. I had them under my breast and I remember my rads onc referring to them as "islands" of new skin that would eventually join together. And they did!

Edited to add-BJay, I'm 2 1/2 years out from the end of rads and my radiated breast still gets itchy at times. I almost think the radiation did something to permanently damage the sweat and/oil glands.

Terry - I was already on pain meds for something else but wasn't prescribed any for the radiation burns so mine may not have been as bad as yours (or mine was over-ruled by my other pain ). Don't hesitate to call a rads nurse or your RO if you have concerns over the next 2 weeks. Hope the healing progresses well after that.
