I started with a red spot on my right breast back on July 7th. Saw my Dr. She put me on augmentin and wanted to see me back in a week. Symptoms worsened redness and swelling was spreading so she put me on bactrim and prednisone. After 3 days still no improvent and redness was spreading so dr ordered US and mammo both were negative. She then sent me to see a general surgeon who did a slice biopsy next to my aereola the only place my breast isn't red. Biopsy was negative. Breast still swollen and redness has now consumed whole breast and I have dimpling along underside of breast. So dr sends me to breast cancer dr at one of the top places in my region. She looked, didn't even touch, and said chronic mastitis be treated by your own dr. I asked about IBC and she told me that what I had was not progressing fast enough to be cancer. I was amazed because all this has occured over exactley 4 weeks and imo that's fast. Now I am on another antibiotic breast is still swollen with hard band hurts like hell and the breast is turning purple where the original red was the veins are dark blue and im freaking out. They are sending me to the dermatologist next. I am so scarred and so confused does anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be? Medical history I had a hysterectomy 00 and a hrt related stroke in 10 otherwise fairly healthy. Thanks for any help

Hi ShelliD: Sorry to see that you have not had any responses to your query on this Board.  I have not had mastitis so I cannot comment on that. However I dont understand the breast specialist's comments that it could not be cancer as it was not progressing fast enough. Can you get a second opinion at the cancer centre and ask if someone is familar with IBC.  Hopefully it is mastitis and will be showing some improvement by now.  It is very important that you are diligent though and follow up with your worries, be persistent with the doctors.  Hopefully other people will comment too. Kathy
