this is my second time for breast cancer, I had a IDC 9 mm, stage 1 grade 2  er/pr+ 13.5 years ago. It was at 6 oclock, left outer. Well this time it is at the 7 oclock right outer. I am also a BRCA!. As I have always remained being examined tests etc, at the cancer clinic, It was my reg. oncol who discovered the1.5 cm lump last Monday,I had a MRI Nov. was called back for a ultrasound in Feb, which showed again more cysts. Went for my regular mammos, then the protocol is to see my oncol after for exam. She found the lump, which if I would have been checking myself, I would have felt it, before this. She sent me for ultrasound right away with a core biopsy at the same time. This was Wed. I was expecting a prelim call by this Friday, and oncol called and biopsy positive for cancer,I will get a phone call tomorrow or next day with the results of the actual path reports, as it takes about 5 working days, but I asked that I was told on Friday. Ok now I'm absolutely freaked out.Is my cancer going to be "early stage" or could it have spread to my nodes bones etc. The ultrasound tec, had said that they saw this area last Nov with the followup been neg, then the doctor that did the biopsy said it was in another spot. Was something just missed and the cancer is huge?? It also did not show in the mammo that I had that day, Please I need some help and answers!!

No wonder you are freaked out having cancer again after 13.5 years.

I don't have much in the way of answers but as the lump is in the other breast I believe this would be treated as a second cancer and not a reoccurance of the first cancer, and if so, and if the size of the lump on pathology after surgery is still approx 1.5 cm then this would still be considered "early stage", even if with some node involvement (less than 4 nodes).

I'm in Coquitlam BC and was dx from a screening mammogram in 2009 at the age of 65 and was told that I was "early stage" with a ILC tumour of 1.6 cm and one positive node 1.5 cm. It was only because of the positive node that I had chemo.

Thanks for your response Kathy.I haven't got the path report yet, but when my oncol called Friday, she just wanted me to know the results, instead of me panicking over the long weekend. But the path report I guess will tell more.Because my primary doctor 13 years ago, pulled in a favor to his personal friend a surgoeon who I saw the next day after dx I had my surgery right away. I read here that its normal to wait months for surgery. I couldn't stand that. My oncologist said she was going to speak to the surgeons at the cancer clinic and tell them it was urgent and as she said expedite it. Now of course was this because she doesn't want me to wait, or if it is a huge cancer? But although when she found the lump she said it was about 1.5 cm, and talking to her on Friday she said the same, but do they really know? Anyway I freaking out. I've already had 2 sisters with bc  with one of them passing away, and with all the family having th brca1 gene just makes it worst. BTW I am almost 57 and post menopause but my first cancer I was pre..I don't know if that changes things
