My GP finally got my insurance to approve an MRI!!!  Woohoo!  Hopefully they can figure this out. All these symptoms that have been here since Oct and only gotten worse are driving me insane. Go in Wednesday. Smile

So glad to hear that your MRI was approved.  I was recently denied as well---my mammogram clearly said that I had dense breasts and an area of concern near my chest wall.  I was called in for a bilateral compression test and was sent for an ultrasound.  There is an area of dense tissue and none of these tests could rule out cancer.  My insurance denied the breast MRI because they said it was "experimental" and that I showed no evidence of dense breasts or family history.  They said that I should just have a biopsy.  That is ridiculous!  I not only have dense tissue but the doctor said I needed additional testing!  I truly do not understand!

I ended up having a test called Molecular Breast Imaging (MBI or BSGI) and it is comprable to MRI. I had the procedure at a local breast center and it took only about 30 minutes for the test and I was there for about an hour
total.  I received an injection of a tracer that accumulates in the cancer cells and makes them "light up" on the
computer screen.  The test was similar to the mammogram except you are sitting down while they do the images.   They took three images of each breast and it showed no evidence of cancer in my breasts.   I do, however, have an issue that requires further
investigation-probably calcification on a rib or a bone spur----but not cancer.  The test was extremely easy and I would
definitely recommend it to anyone that is not comfortable with the results received
from their mammogram or ultrasound and wants to ease their mind.

Right before my test, I did have the opportunity to meet a
patient that had a cancerous lump that did not show up on her mammogram and was
found by the BSGI/MBI procedure.  She was
incredibly inspiring and really made me thankful that this test was available
    to me.

Best of luck on your MRI!!!

Went to the doctor Wednesday for what I thought would be about my MRI.  It was to tell me I still did NOT meet the criteria.  My GP has now put me on neurontin to see if that will help any side effects.  Other than that, I will go back to my BS at the end of this year for another US.

Hi, AKC...have you considered doing an appeal or request for review directly with your insurance co? Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets more grease, as my mom would say.
