Pinktober Revolution

Spooks: by "poster" I meant that sign that WW put up on here. At the bottom of the previous page. "Grabbing a boob decreases stress by 70%"
-
YAY Spookiesmom! That's the way to handle early pink perkiness. How annoying. We have definitely reached the point where awareness needs to be raised in re:the obnoxiousness. Fed. Up.
-
I suppose bursting into copious tears in the middle of the reception area of a busy restaurant is one way to call attention to the fact that the restaurant's attempt is upsetting and offensive. But there must be a...well, a less upsetting one.
-
sorry Glennie. DAH thinks a coyote or bobcat just ran thru the yard. He had Kris out off leash.
-
Is Kris ok?
-
YAY Spookie, course the guys monitoring me are trying to figure out why I googled bombs exploding. I won't explain it to them. Otherwise some else might be on their watch list..Wish I knew how many watch lists I'm on, b/c I defer political correctness
-
Queen.....
Oh no!!! Boy oh boy do I like that idea. Throw a real freaking scene in the restaurant. YES!!! I would do that in a New York minute absofuckinloutely. Pink tacos my ass!!
Meanwhile.... I made this vegan gluten free dark chocolate cake

-
yes Sula! Chocolatober!!!
-
Yes!!!!! CHOCOLATE anything!!!!!!
-
Choctober!!!!!!!!! Sula that looks AMAZING!
-
oooo, Sula,, that looks fantastic!!
-
Chocolateyearround, thankyouverymuch. But not looking forward to October(s) myself for this very reason. I don't know if I'd actually burst into tears--depends on the situation--but I can definitely see saying something, ostensibly to my husband, about how all the pink bleep is offensive in a stage bellow, to ensure that everyone around heard..
That said, I would argue (politely) that there does need to be more awareness, not of breast cancer per se, but of how it's treated. A nurse connected with my care in the local system commented that she was afraid of getting mammograms because of the radiation exposure. A couple of people have asked if I'm going to lose my hair, in the SE of chemotherapy sense.
But that in no way diminishes the sheer [redacted] of all those [redacted] pink ribbons! all those [redacted] cutesy slogans. That [redacted] 'post your bra color' meme on Facebook a few years ago got up my nose to the height of a New York skyscraper, and I hadn't been diagnosed yet.
-
So I got a call on my cellphone this morning. Someone collecting money for breast cancer, and asking if I would donate. I told them I was a breast cancer patient and most of my money was going for MY medical bills. Then she said something along the lines of "Oh my goodness" (in a flat, I'm reading this off of a script voice,)" then you must know how it feels. Can we count on you for at least a $15.00 donation?" I told her I already support my own choice of charities. If I was more awake, I may have messed with her more. How the crap did they get my cell phone number??? :-(
-
Suladog,
Must....have....that....chocolate.....cake.
-
Slappy-Squirrel I had the same call not too long into my ordeal...and they also went ahead & asked for $ after I said I couldn't afford it BECAUSE i was paying bc-related bills! So anyway I reiterated I couldn't afford it & just immediately hung up. No patience for nonsense!
-
I got that kind of call way too early in the morning and lit into the woman,,, saying I had BC and she should give me money. She snottily says "we'll take you off our call list" and hung up.
-
agree! I always ask for some of that money. Actually, I usually say "oh my, isn't that wonderful and fantastic, I am so glad that you called me today. You could not have picked a better time to call, please let me speak to the supervisor in charge of distributing funds to those who qualify.". Usually get the "we'll take you off our list", click reaction.
-
Scuttlers: (bursts out laughing) I'll have to keep that in mind for my next call from one of THOSE groups.
-
http://stupidcancerstore.org/the-cancer-card/ Guys,
Look what I just found....

I just bought one to fuck with people ( getting ready for Pinktober) 5 bucks and the money goes to StupidCancer.org for some reason the link is up above?????
-

Just my thoughts on the pinking of breast cancer. Pinktober bothered me before I was diagnosed and it really bothers me now. I have a friend who has been battling ovarian cancer since January 2013 and am so aware how all the other cancers have little or no awareness associated with them. Isn't it time that all cancers should be given the same type of funding and awareness so that a cure/prevention is attainable?
-
Excellent posters, Kathindc
and Sula,, LOVE the card!! I think we all need that.
-

Found at CafePress
-
Glennie, now there's a tee shirt I wouldn't mind wearing
-
oh ladies! Sula, gotta get me one of those. Love all the memes too. And the Tee shirt. All of this business annoys me so much, and those memes were a salve to my irritation/aggravation
-
Bracing myself for October--the support group I fell in with is TOTALLY ABSOLUTELY GUNGHO about showering the world with pinkness during October. I plan to show up to the next meeting wearing something which clashes virulently with pink and blandly claiming I'll be out of town for all the events. Because chances are I will be. No, really. Two operas in Chicago and a visit to my in-laws in Vermont.
-
Unfortunatly, it's still October there too. Take ALL your anti pink shirts.
-

I wear these year round. -
Spookie: (winces) True. I'll do what I can. I don't remember if a significant number of the restaurants near the hotel where we'll be staying (Chicago) do anything much for That Month Which Shall Not Be Named--we were there in early October last year (different surgery, different reason I'd be having mobility issues).
While it's true I wasn't quite as sensitized then as now, it got up my nose to about the top of my sinuses even then.
I think my in-laws will be pretty low-key about things. They have been so far.
-
I saw a big banner today "Bras for the Cause" while driving home today. *sigh* I'm so not ready for this.
-
I'm new to the breast cancer community, having only been diagnosed since July 2015, but I already hated the whole Think Pink garbage. And I'm mad that they have co-opted my favorite color! I feel like if I wear pink NOW, i'll just be adding my support to the whole stupid breast cancer awareness machine.
