I got my 11 year old dd the first of the HPV vaccines yesterday. I know this is controversial but apparently 75% of cervical cancer can is caused by HPV (please dont yell if i got that wrong..just trying to remember what pediatrician told me yesterday). Anyway..I figure if I can do SOMETHING to help protect her from at least one type of cancer...it was a good day.

I work in a gynecologists office and see all sorts of women, young and old that have been effected by HPV. I firmly believe in arming your daughter against this. Men/boys do not have symptoms from the cancer-causing forms of hpv and would not know if they were passing it along. This vaccine has also been approved for boys to get as well but I am not sure of the age groups. Good Job!

yes. the doctor told me my sons could get it at age 12. it does seem kind of freaky to do at such a young age but i am not naive enough to think my kids would NEVER engage in dangerous behavior in their early teens.

I agree autism-mom with protecting our kids from cancer when we can.  I'll be getting my 10 yo her first HPV shot soon.  HPV is being found to cause a lot of different types of cancer like head and neck cancers, lung, anal and most cervical cancers.  I'm glad I can at least protect her from these ones.
