3 years ago I was told that I had DCIS and had a lumpectomy to remove 3 milk ducts. A year later started having nipple discharge and pain. Fought with doctors about getting procedures done. Then this past May a general surgeon sent me to another general surgeon but she also specializes in disease of the breast. My first visit to this new doctor she ordered a MR-guided breast biopsy, 3 days later I went in to get pathology report and this new doctor told me that the lesion has potential to become or deveolop breast cancer. That day which was this past Monday she prescribed me tamoxifen. She told me to take it at night, tonight will be my 3rd night in taking this medication. I am experiencing breast swelling and pain in both breast not the 1 that the lesion is in. I have been researching for the past 2 weeks about anything on tamoxifen. Just tryin to find out if the swelling and pain in both breast is a side effect or what.

    Hi Madams,

I've been on Tamoxifen twice and never had this side effect, you may want to post your question in the Hormonal Therapy - Before, During and After section as not everyone will read you message in the forum you are in.  You will get more feedback if you post there.  I'm trying to figure my way around this website myself and sometimes go into the search section and that gives me more direction.

I do know that tamoxifen's job is to block your estrogen receptors so if you normally get breast pain around your period then you may react this way!  Either way your hormones play a big part in how your body feels so because it's both breasts then it's more then likely the drug.

I just finished Tamoxifen after 5 years and didn't have too many side effects, I just had my ovaries removed 3 weeks ago so that I could go on a newer drug Femara (which you have to be in menopause for) as soon as I started it I got headaches and leg cramps just like I used to get from PMS so it's all related.

Hope you find some more info!

I had that reaction. I had severe breast pain in both breasts. My doctor told me it was probably the hormone changes.

Hey all, I called my dr like I said I would this morning, she told me that it was a side effect for the swelling of both breast and hormonal changes as well.
