I was diagnosed with bc in June 2007, had my first infusion of Zometa last Thursday because I showed a significant bone loss in two years.  I heard there can be no side effects all the way to people sick for weeks.  I have had a headache since the infusion, clamminess, chills, very tired, significant bone pain.  It's been 48 hours and I hope it goes away soon.  I won't have one again for six months and will be more prepared.  My mother is in the hospital with a pelvic fracture, she's 86 and almost blind.  At least I don't have to worry about carrying for her during this period of side effects.

I have read about taking advil or something similar before hand, any other tips before the next one?

 Thanks.

 Nancy

    Hi Nanc,

You may be interested in checking out the main Breastcancer.org site's page on Zometa, complete with links to possible side effect pages, which offer tips to help manage those side effects.

    Hope this helps!

Nancy, you should take Advil and Benadryl before the infusion. At my hospital the infusion nurse offers them to me. I take it at home though. Surprised your MO did not alert you to do this. My symptoms usually occur the next day and last about a day. I had my third dose this June and did not react near as much, matter of fact hardly at all. I'm told it gets better with each infusion. A bonus to Zometa is it offers protection against mets to bones. Best wishes!
