Anybody Try to Join Group Health Insurance Plan

Options

Hello all,

I currently have a good insurance plan through my employer (work part-time).  In the fall I am going to be starting as an intern with a counseling center as counselor in training so won't be provided insurance there.  Hubby and I are having difficulties so am not sure that I will be able to fall back on his insurance (i.e. if I end up leaving him).    I know I could keep COBRA for 18 months.  But after that I would have to find new insurance.

I was wondering if any of you have tried getting group health plan through an association, like AARP or one of those similar organizations.  I know they would have to accept pre-existing condition for me, but I'm just wondering if any insurance would accept me.  If anyone has any experience withi this, I'd really like to hear about it.

Thanks.

Aw, Pam, I hope things improve with your husband.  That's too much any time and really bad when you need to concentrate on your health.

AARP's health insurance is individual health insurance. I don't know of any associations that have group health insurance plans any more. As you mention, group health insurance plans have few restrictions on pre-existing conditions, if any.

Have you looked at your state's pre-existing condition health insurance plans?  Some states have additional plans that don't have the 6-months-no-insurance requirement.
