A Bye Bye Booby Party

Options

Ten weeks ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The weekend before my surgery I held a Bye Bye Booby Party for family and friends.

Everyone wore pink and NZ Breast Cancer Foundation supplied merchandise that I sold on the night. It really felt good just to get together and have a good time and raise some money for the foundation.

Good just to have fun and try not to worry too much at this very surreal time.

Hi.  This is my very first post.  Your parties sound like a breath of spirit from where I sit!  My diagnosis is so brand new, and I'm finally starting to wake up thinking about it without being in shock.  I can get used to this with help from my friends!

I have a question, but am not sure where to ask.  I would like to know how women make the decision between lumpectomy and mastectomy.  I am turning 43 in a few weeks and am done having children.  I live on an island.  It takes me four or five hours to get to my oncologist and to my future treatment, whatever that will be.  I want to avoid recurrence because this kind of travel is so difficult.

happy - I made the decision to have bilateral mastectomy, with only one known tumor 1.7 cm DCIS/IDC.  The mastectomy with good margins allowed me to avoid radiation, that would have been highly recommended with lumpectomy.  Because I was ER/PR + Her2- with no lymph node involvement, I also had no chemo.

The extensive part of my treatment has been my reconstruction, with tissue expanders requiring 11 weekly fills, then several follow up surgeries.
