What questions do I ask?

My breasts have had a difficult couple of years. Single papilloma removed from right in 2006 and an incidental LCIS diagnosis. Since then, 4 rounds of needle biopsies because of palpable "lumps", all disappearing after biopsies. Stereotactic biopsy followed by excisional biopsy in July 2011 where ADH found. At six month follow up, I noted 3 new lumps near ADH site which upon further needle biopsies discovered multiple pappilomas. Had MRI where additional enhancements found on both breasts. Following 2 more needle biopsies had 5 excisional biopsies in June 2012, 3 on the right at location of pappilomas and 2 on the left at separate microcalcifications. Pathology came back with DCIS in background of pappilomas in one third of my right breast and ADH in the left. Doctor recommends mastectomy on right and potentially for left as well. I am awaiting BRCA results which could make my life easy. Meeting plastic surgeon tomorrow.

I see from reading boards I should find out grade, size of mass and estrogen receptors. What else should I ask for? If I want a second opinion, do I need to ask for anything other than my pathology report? Do I need my films, medical chart? Will a second pathologist actually look at the report or request the tissue samples to do further testing? Should I wait for second opinion on pathology report before getting a second opinion from a breast surgeon?

I am so overwhelmed by the path I took to get to where I am today. Not sure where I stand or what I am doing. Anyone out there have similar experiences?

Sincerely, Susan

Susan, there's a section on the main Breastcancer.org site all about Getting a Second Opinion, including what to expect from the process, why to seek a second opinion, etc.

Posts from other members may give you more insights to help you with your next steps. We wish you well.
