Well, I'm 9 days into my 16 days of radiation. I was doing good until Sunday, but then I started getting a rash on my chest. Very itchy hivy rash. RO checked it out on Monday and said it was pretty common. Gave me some cortizone cream. I asked my RO why I was only doing 16 days radiation rather than 30. He says he felt that 16 days was a good period of time given that my tumor less than 1 cm and the lumpectomy had good clean margins. I was concerned about my heart and lung so I was happy with 16 days....and I'm laying prone on the table which I guess helps them miss the heart and lung. But now I'm not sure. Anyone else do 20 days or less radiation?

Hi Joan 1112 - Lucky for you only needing 16 days.  I'm just two days away from my total of 33 days (which includes 5 boosts, which I am now in).  My tumor was 1.2 cm, and a more aggressive Grade 2, although fortunately I had clean lymph nodes (0 of 6).  So no chemo, but a full dose of radiation.  I understand it's the standard of care for early-stage breast cancer, particularly if chemo was not required (I did not need chemo, despite my borderline Oncotype score of 19).  For me, my breast swelled in the beginning, gradually turned pink and then beet red along the thin skin of the chest wall, and now with the boosts concentrated near my armpit, the swelling has begun again.  But two more days, then I'm FREE! ! Yippee ! !

Kay- Yeah for being done girl!!! Just wanted to let you know that when you are done rads keep creaming up! the rads have a collective effect for 7-10 days. So keep caring for yourself during that time. ( I didn,t know if you were aware of this info so I thought I, share just incase! Again congrats on being done hon.

Hi ladies it is official I have completed 33 of 33 rads as of today. Glad it is over. Made it through without to much damage. I little sore pretty red and a little neuropathy, but it could have been worse. I have been using cortisone creme, candula lotion(works really well) and pure aloe Vera gel. Dr said to keep using them for at least 1 week. I will see the Onc Dr on Oct 9th to start taking arimidex. Will see what happens with that. Hope everyone is well.

    Hugs to all

    Patricia

    Hello everyone -

I finished up rads in mid-October and went right back out in the field, so I hadn't realized how long it's been since I last visited. I used fresh aloe from our plant and calendular lotion and had very few problems with the site (even after boost). About three weeks in to the great Tamoxifen adventure. So far, not much to report (hopefully it will stay that way). Hope all of you are doing well and have a happy Thanksgiving!
