Ray-sorry about the swing. I was excited for you & the nap outside sounded wonderful. Now I find you've been working:o At least that parts done now & hopefully you can relax later:)
Joanne-wow you have your hands full with challenging students. If anything can help music is definitely one of them. I did a presentation last year on working with students with different ways of learning because of oxygen deprivation, dyslexia, & high functioning aspberbers...I'll look for my notes & send them on to you. Maybe I should send them via e-mail as to not clogg up the space here:)
One thing I've found helpful is to have them be involved with tapping, moving, dancing, putting there hands on yours, anything to help them feel the music. They have to gain trust first but when that comes it gets easier:)
Working with challenging students is so rewarding. I've learned more from them & have seen the disbelief of many turn into amazement (serves them right for doubting:). I love the challenging students, although they take a lot of work. The rewards are far greater:) Good Luck!
Hope you cool off. 102 is awfully hot! It been very pleasant during my trip. In the 70's, sun shining, perfect weather. It was relaxing & I've been SO lucky to have day after day of feeling good so I can enjoy everything more.
Yes I'm w/my parents. Grand people to be with. I'll tell them you say hi:)
Thanks for the info on dating presentation. I'll check it out. One can never have to much info in that area. -
Lol-OMG-That cracks me up! Some people can just say anything & not think twice about it. Crazy men. At least he gave you a laugh & made you feel good to be noticed. No hiding for you:) When I need to find some guys it sounds like I need to hang out w/you. Thanks for the laugh.

Hey, all,
Our Day of Service was pretty amazing. Turns out that the stake donated something like 15 THOUSAND pounds of food, quite a bit more than they had asked for. And the expo was amazing. They had the entire gym full of displays (kind of like a craft fair, only with organizations presenting their opportunities for volunteering or donations). Then in the side rooms, they had all sorts of things people could help with...sewing blankets for servicemen and women, tieing fleece blankets for the homeless, donating old glasses for the poor, assembling hygiene kits, and making newborn outfits for babies who died, plus a dozen more. It was so uplifting. By the time we got there (1/2 hour after it started!) the kits were all assembled and people were waiting in line for the sewing machines that were there! I could not believe how crowded the place was, but also very cheerful and productive. Nobody complained about the crowds, except my mom was a bit miffed that she couldn't donate blood in the Red Cross bloodmobile because so many people showed up that they had no room!
I had a really rough day today. My students are generally wonderful, but today I got majorly cursed out, screamed at, and almost physically attacked (I teach kids with emotional disabilities, so it's not exactly unexpected). I don't usually come home in tears (especially since it was my son's 11th birthday today) but I guess I'm just worn out. I'm going to bed and hope I dream about the Day of Service rather than my students! -
raro-what a amazing day of service you participated in! So much goodness in one place. 15k of food wow! If every city/county could do something like that think of how the world would be. Service is so healing for the soul. Thank you & thanks for sharing:)
It sounds like you had quite the day teaching too. I hope you sleep well & that this week will be better. Sometimes patience gets worn down & it sounds like you need lots. -
I too hope everyone sleeps well. I had a footzone tonight so I'm off to a deep sleep hopefully. See you all later:)
-
Hi sisters!! It's great to see so many of you here! And yes, there is always room for every woman even if you are not LDS. I have several close friends who have helped me through this journey who are women of faith even if they are not LDS. I feel my Savior's love through them. Welcome to our circle. I'm sorry I've been away. We had some some recent family events (i.e. father-in-law's stroke, mission farewell, and parent's 50th anniversary) that took my time and attention.
Breast cancer is certainly an experience that I would never wish on anyone, but it has also opened my eyes to the many blessings and people in my life for which I am ever so grateful! I missed the General Women RS Broadcast, but loved the write-up from the LDS Church News. It sounded fabulous and was just what I needed to hear!!
You are all so lovely! BTW, I have never heard of footzone either, but a lovely massage is always appreciated.
Awesome Days of Service!!! Our stake assembled 900 weekend meal packages for less income children. It is hard to believe that many go home without anything to eat on the weekend. It felt like such a blessing to be able to provide for those in need and have some fellowship with our stake members. While my husband and sons assembled meal packages, I took my high school daughter and her friends out to raise money for their marching band. They just learned on Friday they were selected to perform in the Tournament of Roses Parade-2014. That is my favorite parade of all times. I love the creativity and the imagination that goes with the floats. I hope we get to attend. In the back of my mind is I hope I can attend - God willing!
Much love and blessings of comfort and peace to you all! I'm so glad to see that this thread got picked up!
Love, Janet

Mom2three-agreed this is a site for all not just LDS. I too have had much help from others who are not LDS. Sorry to hear about your father in law. And It sounds like you also had a great day of service:) That's also awesome about your daughter for the Rose Parade! What an awesome experience.
As for the a foot-zone its an awesome thing you should all try. You get to have your feet worked on w/each area if your feet representing a part of your body. It basically moves the energy around & helps this get moving again. Its different than reflaexology & does more for healing. Here are a couple sites that explain it way better than I did:
http://livingthegoodlifenaturally.com/home/foot-zone-therapy/what-is-foot-zone-therapy/
http://www.wedofeet.net/faq.html
The lady I go to us amazing. I feel so much better. It uses the ancient methods of mapping the feet & "healing" from there. I'm not one that uses a lot of holistic type stuff, but I do know it does something. If anything it feels really good. A bit sore the first few maybe but so worth it.
I too am so happy this thread was chosen:) It's nice to have another connection with everyone. LDS or not this thread shows a belief in a higher power & that there is someone always watching over us. This gives me great comfort & I know to others as well.
I hope you've all had a great day. I'm so thankful to be feeling stronger each day & being able to participate in society again. Thanks to the bco site & all the strong women on here! -
Thanks Ray me too. And feet-thank goodness mine aren't to ticklish but I could see how that could be a problem:)
I love the everlast friend idea. I've often thought it would be great to have something to hit & punch. You'll have to let us know how it goes & if it does the trick.
I hope the cake turned out well & Pat was good company.
Have a good night all... -
You too and God bless You all.
need to leave my day with God
and rest in Him.
You have a good night too.

Good to see you posting again, Janet! See what a wonderful thread you started?
I hope your family is doing better after some rough experiences. Thanks for posting again!Hey, raro--you amaze us with your ability to work a tough job and still find enthusiasm for service on the weekends. You rock! (Did that sound dumb? Not sure if it's a hip thing to say anymore
) Did you have pleasant dreams and a better day today? Keep hanging in there and know that we're here to listen and lift your spirits. TallM--I wonder if my numb feet from neuropathy would feel any different after one of those footzone treatments? I'm glad it works for you. I know that I LOVE having my hair brushed to relax me. I bribed my kids to brush my hair (before chemo when it was long). Thanks for the advice on my Autistic piano student. I'd LOVE your notes, so I'll PM you my email. Thanks a million!
Backto the subject of hair: I just got my hair cut, FREE, at a JC Penney salon (a Pinktober deal for BC survivors--no questions asked or proof needed). The stylist has my business now--she did an awesome job of fixing badly cut layers, thinned my curly, thick hair, and straightened it so it lays SO much better. Now, the problem is, I can't ever wash it again or I'll wreck what she took 2 hours to create--ha! I'll post a pic so you can come to California and hire her, too

Hey, Ray! You posted a pic! Good for you, smarty pants! And what a punching bag that is--wow! And how did your cake turn out? Did you make some good money? Save your pesos (my grandma's phrase) so you can come visit California
Sure would be great to have everyone on this thread meet up sometime. Just returned from "Minute to Win It" activity with the Young Women and Young Men. We are SO lucky to have great kids that get along. We have many nationalities and family situations, all sized and shaped kids, and they really ,really love being together. My daughter plays varsity volleyball with games on Tues. nights, so she misses these activities a lot. Sure wish that didn't happen, dang it! She made it for our Zumba activity last week, though, so that was nice. Good thing she doesn't mind me being a leader in YW while she's in the program. She said as long as I wasn't HER age group leader, it was OK. I'll take that as a mostly positive response
It's getting closer to General Conference Weekend--yay! You know I'm going to let you know the countdown, so be prepared to get tired of my mentioning it
Honestly, you'd think I was a kid with an Advent calendar, counting the days before Christmas!
-
Ray-I'll be praying for you. I hope the score is good & minimal procedure/meds etc can be done. I hope you can find peace & comfort. Many prayers are on there way:)
-
Dear Ray--I'm in your pocket!
I'm with TallM--Praying, as always, for your peace of mind and ability to make well informed decisions. Return and report when you can so we may help in any way. -
I'm so glad Joanne that Janet started this thread too. It's keeping me entertained & informed. And the people on here are amazing:) Thanks for the prayers too:) One can never have enough.
I'm in chemo again today & there are a lot of new people. It's really strange. Not just the patients but also the staff. Feel like I'm in the wrong place. Wish that were true:)
Still praying for you Ray that all will go well. -
You betcha, Ray!

TallM--I hope all goes well with chemo today. Rest up so you can bounce back! i start teaching the young boy with Austism today. Hope to implement your suggestions and have success.
Just got a call from Katelyn, my middle child who lives in Washington, with news that she's having a BOY--yay! We have 5 grand daughters and one grandson, so this helps even the score
Katie's husband came from a family of 5 boys, no girls, and this is their first grandchild. They probably were hoping for a girl, but they're thrilled, just to be grandparents. -
Joanne I know you'll be awesome teaching him & he will love you like all of us do here:) AND Congrats on being a grandma again! Little ones are so much fun:)
Thanks. I'll do well with the chemo. It's Navelbine & that one is kind to me:)
Have a great day everyone:) xxx -
Ray--we're hoping you're OK and that you felt our support and love during today's appt. You're such a dear and we hope you're feeling better today (I'm writing this as if you're reading it Thurs. morning)
TallM--the piano lesson went well, but it sure was a challenge. What a sweet boy, and he really tried hard to focus, but I think it's going to take much more studying on my part to help him learn. What I was really happy about was the suggestion you used to put my hands on his. I'm lucky he trusted me enough to do this, so I helped him touch the keys and get used to the way each finger could move, individually. He was so proud to have played "Old McDonald" and "Mary had little Lamb" on the black keys! His mom kept telling me that she's fine with small progress, meaning that he has fun during his music lesson and maybe, just maybe, will learn things, too. Your notes helped me, too, with the importance of repetition, and boy, did I do a lot of repeating! Thanks again, and I'll bug you and raro for advice/support, working with this Austistic student. He's only 6, which is too young by my standard, but I think this is will be a totally different kind of music lesson, anyway.
So....did anyone watch the debate tonight? I have to be careful and not to get myself too worked up over politics
-
Ray- I thought about you frequently today. I continue to pray for you as do many. We all have our arms around you & will be there with you.
Joanne- I'm so glad the lesson went so well:) I knew you'd be a pro. I'm glad my notes helped some. I think a lot of teaching is listening & teaching with the spirit. I've noticed this so much. We have the skill to teach & then are a vessel to help others learn. Lol-you can ask anytime & I'll pull out of my dusty chemo brain what I can:) 6 is young but your comment of fun is right on. Students learn when things are fun. Oh just remembered a GREAT site Faber & Faber: http://pianoadventures.com/index.html
There are some videos that have helped me. I haven't looked for awhile but there on there somewhere. They show some great activities, songs, rhythm etc.
The debate- I did. I thought it was good at clearing some up for those thinking Romney was marshmallow. Can't wait for next weeks:) That should be entertaining. -
Ray-I'm glad we were "in your pocket" & could be some sort of support. That's a rough appointment to go through alone. I hope the answers & more questions that come will give you peace & you'll find comfort in the plans of action & direction that should be taken.
Since I was diagnosed I've had such a peace with me everyday. A lot is from the prayers & the support of family, friends & bco:-). I know you'll have this too.
Today is my 1 year cansrrversary! I made it & hope to have many more. I have beat the odds after having a couple times they didn't think I'd pull through. I have much more that I want to do & they are developing great new meds all the time.
Here's to all of us fighting the fight. I read on 1 of the threads here late last night, (as I couldnt sleep much because of the steroids for y-day treatment:) that said cancer is cancer. I add-it's just bad luck. 68-70% of people that get cancer do NOT have a family history.
Anyway I hope you all have a great day. I'm off to Idaho again for the weekend to watch conference & enjoy the last of the beauty of Fall up there. I'll keep up here & have you all "in my pocket" too:) I like that idea. xxx -
Ray-fighting is a GREAT choice. I know you're strong & will find all you need to fight. We will all have our gloves on & taking punches w/you @ that everlast bag:) I know I'm a miracle & I must have something more to do here. Even if it's just to meet great people like you.
Sweet your coming out west. It would be great to meet in person. I know how busy things get when traveling & what not but we should see what could happen. Even if it was for a quick hi. You should bring some warm clothes. There expecting snow in Idaho Mack's Inn area & Idaho is always cooler:o Of course your from a cold place so don't need to tell you about cold. -
It's great to see you ladies and gentleman! RayRay, I'm praying for you too! Seriously, it has been through the prayers and loving kindnesses of so many, not just of my faith, that has gotten me this far. There were many times I was on my knees pleading for help and enough faith to see me through and I am now convinced God puts Angels in our paths. I have an appointment next week and was seeking out a friend to take the 1.5 hour drive with me to the medical center. Many who I asked had conflicts. However, just walking to our mailbox, a dear sweet neighbor and I crossed paths. I inquired and she so graciously accepted with enthusiasm. I hugged her.
I just spoke with my father who is celebrating his 77th birthday today. He is also a Stage III prostrate cancer survivor. He and I talked about how these obstacles blow our previous lives wide open and let us experience life and love more fully. I feel so blessed.
My father-in-law suffered a mild stroke in early August while on a cruise. They kept him on board until they reached a US port and he could receive medical treatment. Thankfully, his stroke was mild, but he remained in the hospital in another state for 2 weeks missing his home. He is doing better but like the rest of us wants to be fully restored to his former self. I don't know if that will happen. I suppose we each get used to our "new normal.".
My nephew is now on his West Virginia mission. He flew out this past Tuesday. I hope we get to see him. We live in No. VA.
Meanwhile, my brother-in-law (my younger sister's husband) is back from Afghanistan with severe traumatic brain injury and will be undergoing treatment during the next year.
Everyone needs loving kindness and I pray that I can do that each day for what He has done for me.
Much love to each of you! You are each strong and beautiful. We will see each other through these trials. (((hugs)))
Janet -
Hi Janet:) Sounds like quite the adventures for you & your family! Agreed prayer & prayers of others are the only way we make it some of the most difficult times. And He's there for the good too:) I hope this year is better for all. Personally I want to have a way better year.
Ray-my sis live in Provo & I'm just outside SLC in the Ogden area. We might be going to my sis for Thanksgiving. We're not quite sure where/what we will do for turkey day for sure yet. We'll be in touch, that would be awesome to get together here or Idaho. Lately we've been going to Idaho through the weekend then back for tx during the week.
I'm so excited for you to be taking advantage of the everlast friend. Great idea to put the path report of there:) Exercise...ha I think we could all use more of that. When I started tx I became an alien, lost my hair & gain 50lbs because of all the meds & I couldn't move/walk. But now for the 1st time I can see some of the former me & recognize myself a little:)
Have a great night all:) And we will help each other through Janet:) xxx -
Ray-Thanks. I think I've grown a LOT! Must have needed it. Even though the physical me has changed & feels ugly I stopped worrying about how I looked & new that was just the healing me. I was always happy & new there was a reason for this alien taking over my body. But yes, it is nice to start to see a little of me again:)
There's an article someone in BCO posted about someone w/stage 4 that's survived 17 years! Here's the link:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/27/health/27case.html?_r=2& -
Hi, everyone!
I think TallM and I are the ones up late on the western side of BCO, and still posting when all of you have gone to bed
OK--so Tall has an excuse with steriods, but my excuse is just my natural night-owl habits. I just LOVE coming to this thread at night when it's quiet in my home and I can take time to read all your wonderful, newsy posts. It's like a reward after a long day of "stuff." Janet, I'm sorry to hear about your extended family's health issues, darn it! I hope your BIL and nephew will be OK. What wise words you and your father shared, describing trials as things that open us up to love and live more fully--how true!
Ray, I'm just laughing at you trying to make my eyes green with envy over a trip to Utah and Idaho and possibly getting together with TallM...because IT"S WORKING!!!! How I wish I could join you, both, in your travels. I think it would be FABULOUS if you 2 could meet up somehow. Pictures and a trip report wil be required, or you'll get some PMs you'll wish you hadn't--ha! And that visual of you pinning your path report to your punching bag? You're just too funny!
Seriously, though, I hope you're doing better today after that rough one you had, Wed. Still thinking of and praying for you, sweetie.TallM--thanks for the Faber music link! I LOVE their method books and fun solos. Many of my students are playing something from a Faber book for the recital. This year's theme is: "A Disney Christmas," which is my 2 favorite kinds of music. I now have 33 students, so we can't have the recital in the Relief Society room as in years past. I'll have it in the chapel, which has a better piano, but I loved having the recital inthe RS room because it was warm, cozy and had lovely pictures of the Savior on the walls. I always hope the Lord's spirit is felt by the families of my students when they come to our church for the recital. I also wanted to tell you how wonderful it is that you've done so well on your treatments and have pleasantly surprised your Dr.s I believe that the power of the Priesthood makes up for what medicine can't do, and that seems to be evident in your life, TallM. How glad we are that you're here with us and inspiring us, everyday!
Some good news I wanted to share is that the mother of one of my students is getting baptized in a few weeks! (I think I wrote about her in a previous post.) She's so excited to be a member, and I'm thrilled to be able to help her start this new phase in her life. The ward members and missionaries in her soon-to-be new ward have been very, very welcoming and helpful. I can't thank them enough for being just the kind of members an investigator needs. Anyway, it's very good news in our household today.
Have a happy Friday, All, and remember: just one more day until Gen. Conference!
PS You can watch it on your computer on LDS.org Sat. and Sun.: Mountain. time, 10am-12, and a second session from 2-4pm. Calif. is an hour later, so we watch it in our PJs at 9am, eating sweet rolls and juice and savorying every WORD from our General Authorities. What a double treat!
-
Happy Birthday Joanne! Love the cake you sent her Ray:) I hope you have a great birthday!!! You are so AMAZING & make us all feel comfortable on here. Hope you have a great day & do everything you want! :-)
-
Happy Birthday Joanne! Love the cake you sent her Ray:) I hope you have a great birthday!!! You are so AMAZING & make us all feel welcomed on here. Hope you have a great day & do everything you want! :-)
-
WOWIE-WOW-WOW! (One of my grandma's phrases

That birthday cake looks WAY too delicious and beautiful at the same time! Thanks for your thoughtful cyber-treat, Ray, and thanks for chiming in with sweet birthday wishes,TallM. What a fun way to be greeted this morning on BCO
I feel the same way about all of you and know that we have a special bond outside of our common physical trial of BC. Sometimes I wonder if we knew in the pre-mortal existance that we'd face this disease in mortality (among other trials) and accepted it with perfect faith. Maybe we weren't privy to all of what lay ahead for us, but I strongly believe that we were keenly aware of each other and looked forward to finding each other again in mortality. At least it's a pleasant thought and a great comfort

Thanks, again, for your thoughtfulness, dear sisters! Love you, dearly!
-
I like to think that we all new each other too:)
Ray sorry about your neighbor. It's a shocker alright. And kids:o I hope she has a good support system. I bet when you feel up to sharing your situation you will both be a strength to each other.
It took me almost a year to realize I may not be going back to the way I was before with work & life in general. Maybe it was a way to make me slow down & enjoy life more:) Which I do more. I appreciate every little thing. Sounds like you need a break from work too Ray:)
I don't know why we or anyone have to go through this nastiness but it definitely rearranges everything.
Have a great day & enjoy the storm Ray. Sounds like its beautiful. -
So, I look the other way for a day or two and look at all these posts. Seems like the chatter is picking up a little here.
I enjoy reading everyone's comments, and I appreciate each of you for making me welcome here. I still feel a little out of place, but this disease crosses a lot of borders. A couple of weeks ago I told a patient I wanted her to get a mammogram. She (being funny) said, 'I'll get one when you get one'. Of course I promptly told her that she better get her appointment made then, because I already had mine. She was pretty suprised, but I insisted, 'we have a deal, so make your appointment'.
I am so grateful each day that I am recovering from the surgeries and chemo. I don't know how much we knew about the specific trials would face in mortality, but I'm sure we had some idea. But still, we had not experienced mortality yet, when in the pre mortal state. I will say that as I have gone through this, I have felt the comforter on many occasions. I knew that this was going to be difficult, but I felt comfort that I would be able to do what I need to do. I turned to my 19 y.o. son for a Priesthood Blessing, and it was his first experience doing that. Next week I'm sending him to Brazil for his mission. I'll fly the first leg of his trip with him (to Atlanta) and see him off from there. Its my 5th missionary to send one out, and I look forward to the whole experience.
-
firstcall-Hi! Nice to meet you:) Good luck w/sending your 5th missionary out. It's a great service & what a fun place to go. AND that he gave you a blessing, what an awesome experience for both of you. I hope you can find some peace & strength from BC w/BCO. Esp w/the role reversal of you now being a patient. Not the most fun turn around but w/your background the medical jargon at least makes more sence:)
I'm up in Idaho & will be lucky to get to 50 degrees today. Brrr it's cold so I'm by the fire. Hope everyone is warm but not to warm-Joanne from the 100's:o -
So glad you enjoyed the storm Ray. I LOVE the smell of rain but LOVE the sun more. I've heard that if you walk in the rain (a drizzle) you clean your aura:)
Lol on moose tracks. I just bought the yogurt version just today. Thought I'd try something new. Good FYI about the sugar free version.
