The Hermit Club

The plastic canvas projects that I get come with everything you need to complete them: yarn, plastic canvas, needle, instructions and trims, if the project calls for it. Working on collecting as many pieces as I can for a village set. I get all of my projects from Mary Maxim.
If you have never seen what plastic canvas looks like here is a picture
Its sort of a mesh that you can shape per a pattern. Its a bugger to count, but easy to cut with a pair of scissors. You just have to be careful to count accurately or it can mess you up when your cutting and cause lots of frustration. A sheet of plastic canvas looks like a sheet of paper in a some ways.

Jazzy, that tulip is a happy color! The next time that I buy tulips I want to get ones that scent the air.
M0mmy, do you display the village all year round or is it a holiday display?
I sometimes like to knit to keep my fingers busy. Since I have few knitting skills, scarves were my "go to" project. My grandson suggested that I sew them together to make a blanket. It will be a blanket of many colors, patterns, and textures because I buy yarn that draws my attention because of color and/or texture and I try out various patterns from a book of patterns. Much starting over is involved as I try new patterns, so this blanket will take years. No matter ... I am enjoying the process.
I am behind my self-designated schedule. Have a good day everyone ...

Daisy, before I wrote my last post, I wrote a post to you. Where did it go? I think it said ... I thought your surgery was today, Tuesday. After rereading your post, I realize that it was yesterday. How are you doing? I hear that anesthetics, according to my unofficial poll, stay in some people's systems for a few days which is a good reason to take life easy and to take lots of naps. Take good care of yourself.
-
Right now I have no where to put the village on display so as I get pieces done, they get stored away. One of these days when I have the room, I am going to use the village as a Christmas display with a train running around it.

Yep me too crocheting. My mother made blankets for my kids so i decided to make some for the twins then kept going an am on #9 a dd2 is due with #4 iin may n my dgd is due in april w my 1st great grandchild so now have 2 more 2 make.
Flower is awesome
Yep home, sleeping in my bed is awesome, ankle hurts, getting pt at home. Mo tomorrow, want the port out.
How is everyone
-
Sally,
I am definitely taking it easy - thanks for asking! Hopefully, I'll be myself by the end of the week. Funny, before my pre-op appointment last week, I couldn't remember if my surgery was Mon or Tues. Surgery was early Monday morning - home by noon! My husband is catering to my every need - snacked on grilled cheese sandwich yesterday evening - my favorite comfort food
Your blanket sounds beautiful! My grandmother used to always have a knitting project with her. She taught me to knit when I was young - I developed an allergy to wool. Now there are so many great non-wool yarns, but I have forgotten how to knit... can you post a picture?
Jazzy,
Your tulips are lovely. I have 2 cats that attack every living plant that I bring in... I have to hide my flowers behind closed doors.
Mommy,
I googled your projects - do you use a standard stitch or are there variations? Is it like cross stitch? There's a really attractive arched bridge - did you make that? What a lovely tradition displaying your village will be! I think that I need a hobby
Blondie,
Hope that ankle heals well and that the MO will take out the port. Is PT painful? Have you considered trying the new targeted drug Palbociclib? It's a pill. I tried the Feasibility trial. Had to stop due to Neutropenia. Some women have very few side effects. You have to take it with an anti-hormonal drug, though... Well, it's good that you are home and working on your crochet projects. Your grandchildren must treasure those blankets! Are your steps cleared of snow/ice? Be careful.
I envy all of you with your projects... I am sitting in my recliner most of the day since surgery. I truly wish I had a project... More snow tonight and Thursday - just a few inches? It's been crazy. On way to surgery about 1/8 mile from my house, a car skidded off the road on top of a high snow bank. I thought that New Englanders knew how to drive in this stuff? We watched her speed by the end of our road... I still love the white blanket in my back yard.
Hermits,
Enjoy your flowers, chocolate, projects, and wild weather.

First photo of flowering trees this year in our area.
-
Brrr
-
Daisy- most of the time the stitch that I use is half of cross-stitch. At times there are other stitches that I have to use. Started the arched bridge yesterday.
-
Mommy, that looks like fun. Will the directions be clear in the kit? I haven't done anything like it since I was very young... Oh do you know if it comes with yarn that is not wool? I need to look into that. I would make coasters, I think... That bridge looks so romantic. Your village will be beautiful.
Teka, "I" am so with you on that!
-
-
The directions are usually very easy to follow, but sometimes they can be confusing. I'm pretty sure it is but don't quote me on that
-
Thanks, ankle hurts n nope no clinical trials nighjng. But appreciate the thought.
U hang jn there, big hugss
Hey there all, we r supposed 2 get a big snow storm tonight, gklad i fdont have 2 go out. Didn't go to mo, canceled, didnt have a eRide he will call me

I'm a hermit too! I've always needed solitude to stay sane, so that makes it a little easier, but there's always this guilt hanging over me that I should be trying harder to get out or socialize or whatever. I've surrounded myself with the things I enjoy doing like movies, embroidery, etc and I love having a good excuse to just sit and do that all day! I have such a HARD time letting other people help me when they offer. I always respond with, "Oh, I'm doing ok. I don't need anything right now." I feel like I'm shooting myself in the foot because honestly I feel pretty lonely. I go back and forth on this whole thing. Ugh cancer sucks!!
-
Got up this morning to see that hubby has a delayed opening at work!
-
Welcome catlady! If you are in fact a cat lover, this is the right thread for you as there are many here who love kitties too!
I live alone too. And, we understand here the need to hermit, especially during treatment. It looks like you are still in treatment too. That being said, what I found helpful is to ask my friends who understood and could just either come over to visit or take me out for something simple like coffee. You just cannot do all the things you normally do during treatment, including socializing, so please don't feel badly about that. You need to focus on treatment and all that goes with that.
I had a hard time for a good year after with wanting to be part of group gatherings. As a social person, I found it surprising, but am not so good anymore with small talk or listening to things others may have going on that to me now seem petty. I see my social time not as an either or situation, but more now as "selective socialization." I am still someone who does that too two years post treatment. I don't do all the invites I used to and don't care to. I show up for things I want to do that bring me joy and don't worry about the rest.
It is also okay to tell people you appreciate their invites to bigger things they want to include you in right now, but that you are unable to consider these invites right now. You can let them know when you would be ready to participate in those again.
And I have a hard time asking for help too, as I am a very independent person. But people do want to help and if you can be specific with some things they can do, it will be good for you and for them.
And yes, cancer surely does suck. No argument there!
Hi everybody else. I have an awards event this morning and must run but wishing everyone else a good day!
-
Hi Catlady! Welcome. You will be well supported here. And, yes, there are a lot of cat lovers here!
Jazzy, Pic is so encouraging - ready for Spring. having the PM limit issue - need to wait 3 hours to send my reply... Why ??? Wonder how long this lasts? I learned a lesson and copied and pasted... I hope tonight brings recognition and celebration for you!
Mommy, hope DD is open and you and hubby can spend a little quality time with treats!
Blondie, I wish that I could come there, scoop you up, and take you to your MO appt - ONLY if you wanted to go... otherwise, I would just bring you a meal of your favorite food and a hug. [ Palbociclib (now Ibrance) has been approved for treating MBC - with anti-hormonal. Some on stage IV threads have started this drug] Do you have some supportive slippers for at home? A soft cozy blanket? HA- at the moment I am having an intense HOT flash and throwing off everything... the irony. I do love a soft cuddle blanket, though. Keeping that foot/ankle elevated? My onc has NEVER called me. They LOVE you!!
Teka, can you share another cheery graphic? I need a chuckle or smile... Thanks in advance.
Sally, I have moved beyond the napping phase of recovery. I am just plain cranky. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

catlady44,
Welcome!

Welcome to catlady, our newest Hermie! You will find much affinity with us here! We should all post our kitties again so you can meet the crew.
Even though I have a DH and a DC (Dear Cousin) who share the house with me, they don't interfere too much with my hermiting. DC is off gallivanting around (she's 78) and DH works his tail off. She I get to lie about here and spend the days with my kittie and 2 pups. Except these days I'm having to take off in the middle of the day and get rads. Monday is the last! Can't wait. Skin damage has been pretty extensive.
Ok here's my Sophie:
She's hiding from Rose, my Schnoodle.
-
Mags, that's really NOT a picture of Sophie
and sorry about your skin and shoulder but way so impressed with your courage and determination.
between you and Teka, I am giggling.
Teka, I needed that -- smiling despite my achy gut!
I need to go take some kitty pics...

Hubby's delayed opening at work got changed to a cancellation a short time later. We were able to get my appointment with the PS moved up to the morning. Got the sutures from the revision out today and they said everything looks good and the areas where the drainage was coming from last week have healed up. Looks like they will start up the fill process again very soon.
-
Hi ladies- hope everyone is doing well. I did not win my award today, but am good with that as I also did not expect to. I enjoyed the awards event and nomination recognition, and now on to working on my taxes to give to my accountant. Got some more biz meetings coming up tomorrow. Life is good!
-
Daisy, it really IS!!
-
Mags- are the boosts over with?
-
Jazzy, one more, Monday!
-
Mags,
-
Mags- we are going to do the happy dance with you on Monday!
-
Went to the BS for my reschedule check up with her today (originally planned for Jan but moved out by them). All is well and the BS thought I have never looked better.
I met a nice woman in the waiting area that was gong through her final follow up and was so happy to have made it to the 5 year milestone. It was nice to talk to someone who was there to celebrate something positive!
-
Ok Hermies! Someone find me a Snoopy dance gif! We will all dance!
It was 11 months ago today that I saw my PCP and showed her the lump. What a year.
